This ski school business was sold to the Ski Area that its been running at for years. The knowledge and intelligence of the ski school operation is gone. The resort has recently had some of the younger family members acquired the operation and from what I am hearing/reading they are running it into the ground. It’s not the same as it use to be. So don’t be shocked when you go and have to pay more and get less. Many recently negative reviews have surfaced about the resort. Read for yourself...

After making my reservation well in advance, I was super excited about our upcoming trip. The person I spoke to on the phone at the ski school put my mind at ease. I had never gone skiing before and was very nervous. I did not know anything about skiing, not even how to put a pair of skis on my feet or ride a chair lift. I was told not to worry, they would help with everything and make me feel at ease. When we arrived at the ski school counter, the lady behind the desk was extremely rude. She acted as though she was having difficulty finding our reservation (even though I called the morning of to confirm). She shoved a bunch of paperwork my way to sign without explanation. She then proceeded to turn around and talk to co-workers. The kind of talk co-workers do among each other when they are not happy about a work situation. I learned absolutely NOTHING through the ski school. My husband already knew how to ski and he helped our teenage son through the process. The group lesson was very unorganized. The instructor might be the type who would be good one on one, but he did not speak loudly enough for all to hear and did not conduct a group lesson in an organized, well thought out manner. It was truly a waste of time/money. My husband could have shown me more than this lesson provided. If we are ever fortunate enough to get back up that way, you can believe we will to Sugar Mountain and not waste our time here.

We sat w another group at the time we were schedule at the flag, after 10 minutes I had to find someone w a FSSC jacket on to let them know we were waiting. A lady came over didn't introduce herself to the kids or the parents just said okay kids come with me. We went inside to eat then came out to watch them on the deck, it was a 2 hr class and it said take your kids to the bathroom before, which we did! They were taking them off the snow and inside for a bathroom break. I get it they are kids but taking 8 kids w ski gear on to the bathroom at the same time was a waste of my money. It took them at least 20min to get them in and out and back on the snow. And the lady that first took the kids wasn't even their instructor so as a parent when some new is around your kid that you haven't seen before it's not good. The guy at the desk was nice but spoke to us like we knew what we were doing, it was kids 1st time at ski school and at this mountain and we were clueless. The kids had fun and that is all that counts but it was a bit crazy as a parent.

We went MLK weekend and prebooked lessons for ourselves (3 Private Adult Lessons) and our 3 kids for Cruiser Camp for beginner Snowboarders. The adult classes were great, well organized. We had the same instructor all 3 hours. We chose 10am, 11:15am, and 2pm, so we could get a break and eat with our kids. Kyle George was a wonderful instructor for us, and you are lucky if you get to take lessons from him. He made it fun, and he was VERY patient. He made sure my husband and I were about the same level which was great bc now we can both snowboard together instead of one of us leaving the other behind LOL. Cruiser Camp on the other hand was overcrowded. Kids liked the instructors just fine, but there weren't enough of them. My kids took lessons with 21 kids and only a couple instructors, which means they had alot of waiting around throughout the day. They didn't get the full benefit we feel. So while our adult private lessons was a 5/5, the kids lessons were about a 3/5 bc the staff was still nice and friendly. Go on a not busy weekend if you really want your kids to get something out of the all day camp. Or splurge for private lessons. This place isn't as expensive as the larger mountain resorts in Colorado, etc.

These experienced instructors can teach you to ski in just three sessions and the rates are incredibly reasonable—even more affordable if you come as a group of 10 or more—so grab your friends or family. These folks literally wrote the guidelines for the Special Oympics skiing events! They also teach snowboarding. I'm definitely going back when the season opens in November!

Wonderful group of ski instructors. Four of my five children ages 4-14 all have taken many lessons through them. We have had nothing but a great experience each time. They were kind, helpful, and encouraging to my children. Even the youngest with three lessons was skiing on her own!

Left my kids (3 total) including my 6-year-old son with a group of 8 children in our party. Pick up time was scheduled at 3:30 and when a few parents from our group arrived a bit early they picked up most of the kids not including my son, where asked to his whereabouts they were told he left with me. Upon my arrival, and seeing my son was not with me, we asked again the instructors but none seem to know (or care) that a kid is missing. Furthermore, we were told that his jacket with his name was turned in and that they accounted for him.
After having 4 families run around the mountain (with no help from any instructor or the school) we finally found him 20 min later wandering around the mountain jacket still on. He was gone for a good 20-30 minutes prior to that with not one person noticing.
To make things even worse the manager of the Ski School at the place offered little to no explanation how this could happen, and when contacting them by email, I was told that this program is not a daycare, and "we are faced with the reality that if we give the students an opportunity to ski on their own that on occasion we will have a student get separated" (direct quote from his email).
So as a warning to other parents please note that by paying for the Ski School and leaving your child there, they take no responsibility and that your 6-year-old child will be allowed to leave and wander around, not be accounted for, and not really bother to look for him when knowing he went missing. So unless you plan to spend the whole time standing there supervising your own child I would highly NOT recommend leaving your child here.

Worth the price! My two boys learned to snowboard and had a blast. Instructors were super nice and helpful. Will do it again for skiing next time. All equipment was included and the price was moderate . Loved it!

The first let down was in line to pick up skis. I was in line and ignored time and again by the staff (made of mostly college kids I'm guessing). They were not friendly or apologetic when I pointed out that I had been standing there waiting patiently to be served.
My friend and I signed up our kids for ski school. When I realized that my son couldn't walk in his skis and was very frustrated (after lunch and halfway through the session), I did some digging. He said the teachers were going through everything really fast.
I tracked down the manager and explained the type of frustrations we were having. That my son is 7 and had taken on other ski lesson 3 years ago in Utah and had done very well. The manager asked me what I wanted from him. Wow. I would not spend another penny in this dump if this was the last ski school left.
NEVER again.

Bringing my 12 year old son skiing for the fist time. Easy class registration. Small group size. Friendly, knowledgeable instructor. Well worth the $20!! Class started a little late but other than that, no complaints!
