Lo que las personas están diciendo
Too bad if you arrive two minutes late to the exact 8 pm curtain.

The venue is beautiful but for the event that I attended the venue sold the same seats twice. When they tried to find a place for me and my guest to be seated the staff person at the venue was extremely rude. Also our seats were moved further back from where our tickets were listed for originally supposed to be seated. The view was obstructed and I and those sitting around me could barely see as well. There was lack of empathy and concern from the staff at the Annenberg over these issues. There were many of us who had duplicate tickets and made attending the show very uncomfortable. Luckily Kulu Mele did such a wonderful performance that it made being uncomfortable worth it.

I attended an event at the Zellerbach last month 10/19/19. However, it is very hard to see where to enter, as the building's main entrance is hidden internally, within a huge complex of University edifices, with NO signage for "Zellerbach Theatre." Its marquee on a main street is so far back from the curb, and on the backside of this monolith building, that you won't see it either, while walking along Walnut Street, its stated address.

I wasted a lot of time trying to find its entrance, such that I arrived two minutes after the 8 pm curtain time. It was a dance performance, with one specific number that had compelled me to buy a ticket, and drive one hour through horrendous traffic, to get into the city, and then find a place to park. Much to my chagrin, I was stopped from entering by the ushers, and told to wait until the next number. I said fine, as long as the first number isn't what I really came to see - the "Tarantella" dance, a real rousing crowd pleaser, that I had expected to be saved until the end.

Too bad for me, as it was the FIRST number, and I literally begged and begged the ushers to let me slip in the back to see it, since I was the only one standing there waiting in the lobby at that time. They resolutely refused, using the typical canned robotic phrases, which was even more infuriating, while I was forced to stand there a full 10 minutes, in tears. (Note that there are NO monitors in the lobby, so you can at least see what you're missing, and they started EXACTLY at 8 pm on the dot. Tough luck if you don't live in the city, and can take predictable public transportation.) Needless to say, I was too stunned to enjoy the remainder of the performance, and my evening out was a waste of time and money - causing me a lot of pain, instead of pleasure.

When I was finally allowed to enter, I saw that the audience was half empty, and I would have disturbed no one, by slipping in the back door, and sitting wherever. I will never forget, nor forgive this heartless rule, and will continue to post the most negative reviews for the Zellerbach.

We returned and enjoyed yet another performance in this excellent theater right in the middle of the University campus. Excellent.

One of the wonderful things about The Annenberg is the variety of theatre spaces available. Dance performances take place in the main Zellerbach theatre, the largest of the 3 spaces and a perfect venue in which to experience the best of modern dance companies.

Last night, we delighted in an intimate blues concert with Eric Bibb and Corey Harris that was perfect acoustically. I've also seen a Basil Twist puppet version of Petrushka in the same theatre staged for immediacy and focus.

Located in West Philadelphia on the University of Pennsylvania campus, this is a terrific performing arts center with a wide variety of artistic pursuits presented. Look at their schedules and get tickets to one of their offerings. You won't be disappointed.

We saw Lisa Fischer & Gran Baton here last Saturday night at the Zellerbach Theater. The concert and performance was top notch, packed house, very appreciative audience. Even though we were very close to the stage and a bit off to the right, the sound was still quite good. Next time, we would try to get something back about 10 rows and closer to the center as we suspect the sound mixing would have been better, but no complaints. This is a fantastic venue for live music and set in the lovely Penn campus. Only issue is parking, of course, so we took Uber.

The sound acoustics and seating make this a great venue for dancing and singing. The biggest drawback is if you're disabled. I also agree with the other reviewers, in that parking is hard to come by, and there is no seating in the lobby, which also affects the disabled, and the elderly.

I bought the Dance Celebration series subscription last year. I am not a great lover of dance but it was inexpensive. To my delight I enjoyed every show except 1. The subscription package came with all my tickets, parking discount and restaurants ideas. I highly recommend the series and the theater.

PRO: Now about the theater itself. The main theater is awesome. Its a medium size seating venue with a huge stage. I've sat front row and back row and had no problem seeing anything. The seats are comfortable and easy to get to. The lighting & sound system is worthy of Madison Square Garden. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Parking is just a block away with plenty of street parking. (Beware City of Phila Parking Authority - they are notorious for ticketing meter use even before time is up).

CONS: As its on an Ivy League campus I expected it to be nicer all around. Its rather bland, mostly concrete and the lobby has no seating. You won't even know you are on the UPENN campus as there is not a single sign. One time we sat in the front row and found the edge of the stage in sorry condition. The walls of the lobby are bare...they need to visit the Walnut Street Theater for some design ideas!!!

Took the whole family to this week long annual event of children focused preforming art, games, food and more. We saw three shows pulls the jugglers and had lunch in the courtyard. It was a wonderful day for kids and us adults and everything was included for just $30 each!
