We found a quaint little outdoor performing arts theatre. It was a walking "adventure" with great actors, staff, and scenery. We would stop by again if we were out that way! 7 year old LOVED it.

While looking for different and unique places to visit on a recent trip to Tucson I came across Valley of the Moon. I was intrigued by the place, the concept and the activities. I bought tickets to the production of The Case of the Headless Horseman and brought my mother with me. I found The Valley of the Moon to be a magical fun place of wonder, creativity and connection. They had creative activities outside in front of the gates, local artists selling their wares and a food vendor. I loved the atmosphere and the play that was put on while walking the grounds was fun, cute and involved the audience. I would like to return so I can see it all in the daylight and fully appreciate what this little treasure offers. Such a cool and positive vibe from VOTM!
Thanks to all!

My mother found this place and booked the $10 tickets for us and our 6.5 year-old son to see the Rumplestiltskin 'adventure'. The tickets are timed since this is a walking story adventure, where the Storyteller takes you to different locations throughout the complex and the actors then meet you there to act out the story. We had a 6p ticket and arrived at 5:30p.

There are 'carnival' games that our kid and many other seemed to enjoy. Simple games like bean bag toss through holes in a wall, knocking of cans, a crown toss and a mini putt with flamingo clubs. You get a little prize no matter what.

The path is dusty no biggie to us but might advise to wear closed toed shoes and with good grips if you are unsure of steps. Just a few story locations required steps but they were able to accommodate all but one place for a visitor with a wheelchair.

While the place is 'kitsch', I liked it. The created used recycled materials, rocks, miscellaneous bis and pieces to create the scenes. You get to walk past old growth trees decorated in lights and strands of jewelry for a magical feeling. My son ended up liking it so much and was inspired the next day to make his own puppet shows with the prizes he had won. Never has this happened before! He was also impressed, as were we with the kid actors - only two of the actors were adults.

You can get hot dogs from a cart and soda plus there are a few artists selling their items near the 'carnival' area. Very quaint and simple.

Started in 1943 to provided a fantasy place to entertain children with bunny shows. The theme is kindness to all is the golden key to happiness. Brought back to life recently by a group of volunteers. It is on Allen east of Tucson Boulevard. It is very funky and charming. Google the internet site for hours and events before going.

There is no describing Valley of the Moon; it is one man's dream which morphed into an attraction for kids and was recently declared a Tucson Heritage landmark. This man was a delightfully eccentric and kind child of the Depression who helped countless out-of-work men stay housed, fed and clothed in exchange for 'working' on his property. With his death, the property fell into decline until a group of students from a local HS recognized it from old descriptions and decided to take on the project of rehabbing it. They are still working on it, and that is part of its funky charm. It is truly a work in progress, a monument to one man's rich imagination and love for the child in all of us. We went as three adults and were charmed; if you have children, I guarantee they will be too!

Very uniquely special. They'll be sure to have you leave there a believer in kindness.
I would recommend taking your children there to see plays and stories.

Venue with lots of weird statues and locations. Great to take kids to and sometimes used as a concert venue. Went to concert years ago to see the "Titan Valley Warheads", a local blie grass group. Cheap local color and good for kids.

We went with our friends, so there were four of us who were shuttled into the waiting area before the tour. There, we were led in song by a friendly man with a guitar wearing some kind of tree-like outfit and mask. We sang songs with him. Then our tour guide came along and gave us the full VoM treatment, with an explanation of how the Evil One had captured her father (meanwhile, both the Evil One and the father were off in the distance with screaming and kidnapping obviously going on). Then we were led to the crossroads, which had signs for all sorts of magical lands, such as The Shire and Oz and Narnia and others (I could be making these up, but you get the idea). Then we were introduced to various magical characters as we walked the trails and ducked into grottoes. The tour guides were mostly high school -- and younger -- students and a couple of the actors were adults but all of them put on a heartfelt show. There was only one child in our tour group, but I'm pretty sure we all felt like children. One of the seven wonders of Tucson - in fact, a place that could only be found in Tucson. Someone turning his backyard into a miniature theme-park and a testament to what can be done with some imagination and heart. My husband, who is 62, remember the only other time he went - at 8 years old!

I love taking my son and nephew here, especially for special events like the yearly Halloween show. It's a great family place that provides fun and entertainment without costing a fortune, and it shows that you can have a good time without visiting overly-loud, in-your-face kinds of places like Peter Piper. If you are looking for a wholesome family activity with a little bit of "magic," check out one of the shows here!
