Fun Culinary Tour in Old Port, Portland, ME

I got my husband a Maine Foodie Tour gift certificate for his birthday last October, and we finally got around to using it in May 2023. [The price of the tour had gone up between October and May, but it was no trouble to book the tour at the price I had originally paid. I just scheduled via phone, rather than online, to make sure there wasn’t any confusion.]

Timothy, our guide, is a Portland native and a wealth of information about the history of the city, the food culture, the fishing industry, and miscellaneous interesting and entertaining insight. We hit four different spots in the Old Port section of the city, getting a generous sampling of food at each. We also tasted a few beers. All in all, it was a nice way to get a sense of Portland and some quintessential Maine fare. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys food!

Fun culinary tour in Portland

We met our guide, Timothy, at the appointed time. He is an outgoing and knowledgable Portlander - grew up there, so he knows the area well. We had beer samples and food samples at 4 locaitons and everything was excellent and delicious. Very well organized and Timothy has lots of anecdotes and good information. He recommended several other things to do in the area and those proved to be excellent recommendations.

Best Food Tour We've ever Taken!

This was the best food tour we've ever taken! Our guide AJ was exceptional in so many ways. She obviously loves showing off her adopted city to visitors. Having had many years of experience in the hospitality industry, she knows and loves good food, and knows where to find it. Her warmth and enthusiasm made the entire experience memorable. And the food? From the fish tacos to the seafood chowder, to the lobster roll, this tour is a seafood lover's mecca. We're spreading the word to family and friends. This tour is a must do in Portland. One plus is that by visiting Portland in late April, we missed the masses who visit in the warmer months.

Easy paced, fun, culinary experience!
Looking to taste the best that Portland has to offer - then this tour is for you! The tour included stops at places we had never been to in all our years visiting the area but will now become favorites. In fact, we went back to two of the stops the next day! The only thing that topped the food was our energetic foodie tour guide AJ! The tour included; Haddock tacos, chowders, a killer lobster roll, fresh shucked oysters served harbor side courtesy of Master Shucker AJ and much more! AJ certainly knows her way around town, is very passionate, and very knowledgeable about ocean delicacies and the hundreds of restaurants in the area. In addition to scheduled stops, AJ procured “bonus” tastings including fresh baked bread from Standard provisions, smoked scallops from the local fish market AND donuts from Holy Donut! We also had a few beer samples along the way (non alcoholic options available too) BUT keep in mind this is not a Beer tour - it’s all about the food! The pace of the tour is Ray and you have plenty of time to enjoy each stop. If you’re like us and live for a taste of the ocean, plan your tour now!

Fun but overpriced
The tour was fun but overpriced. We left hungry. I've done a dozen food tours and this offered the lowest value by far. Okay if you have money to burn.

Great food and knowledgeable guide!
Our food tour did not disappoint. Out guide was Ray and he knew everything about the history of Portland. We stopped at Andy’s and had amazing fish tacos. Then off to Gilbert’s, the seafood chowder was to die for, went back the next day and took some home! Had lobster rolls and ended with creamy chocolate!
