Schinoussa's south facing bay, known as Ormos Aligarias, has three beaches. The easternmost is Aligaria 3 or Kampos, to which I had been coming from Lioliou on my hike to the island's southern beaches. After 5 minutes on a path I arrived from beautiful Kampos Beach to Aligaria 2 or Dimitri or Gagavi Beach (the last name being the most used).
Gagavi looks similar to Kampos, but is a bit smaller. Both beaches consist of sand and fine pebbles, both have no tamarisk trees and thus no natural shade. Facing south, with the unihabited Fidousa island further out, they are protected from the Meltemi wind in summer.
West of Gagavi are some small coves, also with sand, where one might find shelter from the sun in caves. From here I continued to walk in direction of the beach Aligaria 1 or just Aligaria. Since it is already included in the privately owned Agios Vasilios peninsula, there is no access to it from the landside. It would be possible to go there by boat, since no private ownership of any part of the coast is permitted in Greece, but one would feel very much like an intruder, since it is an organised beach with umbrellas and a villa at the back, as one can see from far.
Having walked all along the coast until now, I had to go from Gagavi back to the main road in direction of the Chora and could not continue directly past Aligaria to Livadi and Tsigouri Beaches, thus staying by Schinoussa's south coast.
