This old Kirk yard is the churchyard of Old High St Stephen’s, which is the oldest church in Inverness. Following the battle of Culloden in 1746, the Government troops held many Jacobite prisoners in the church, and some of them were executed in the churchyard.

There are many interesting gravestones here, and close to the east door of the church, on the site of the south transept of the medieval church, stands the Robertson of Inshes mausoleum, dating from 1664.

Situated overlooking the River Ness, the churchyard has some interesting memorials, including the 17thC Robertson Mausoleum.

It's just off the Greig "bouncy" bridge. The history says that many highlanders have been executed here post the Battle of Culloden, So, it's an interesting place to visit and pay the respects.

Une charmante personne à l'entrée distribue des petits fascicules dans votre langue (vous pouvez aussi vous servir directement si vous n'êtes pas à l'aise avec la langue). L'histoire du lieu et les tombes à l'extérieur m'ont bien plus impressionnée que l'intérieur de l'édifice.

La chiesa e' posta lungo il fiume Ness sulla riva opposta e quasi dirimpetto alla cattedrale della città. È' bella ed i suoi giardini ottimamente tenuti la impreziosiscono ulteriormente. Se siete al castello, consiglio di scendere verso questa chiesa c'è un angolo ottimo per fare foto!

This churchyard is filled with the headstones of people from an era long ago. We spent quite a bit of time reading the names and calculating the ages of people buried there. The Kirk itself is architecturally very beautiful.
