Der Wald um den See ist quasi ein Naherholungsgebiet welches gerade auch von den Einheimischen genutzt wird. Egal ob mit Kindern, Hunden oder als Tourist, derHazelwood Forest ist für alle geeignet.

We drove through the Hazelwood Estate and attended a performance of 3 Becket short plays. It was very interesting to see the Hazelwood Manor House. Hopefully someone will restore it. The plays were done in the industrial complex and they were excellent!

Perfekt zum wandern, radfahren. Der Wald liegt am See und die Wanderpfade führen durch den gesamten Wald. Auf einer Lichtung findet man Holzskulpturen.

This is a superb location for young kids, and older ones too no doubt. The trails are perfect for cycling. Go clockwise and follow the lakes edge, it's nice and flat for little legs. Plenty to see and explore here too, a lovely spot - highly recommended. Great parking at 'half moon bay'.

I was staying in Bundoran for a week in September. I had read an article on the exhibition and read it was due to end in September. On the Monday after visiting Deer Park I decided to drive to Hazelwood House. I arrived at the estate and drove around the back where the factory is and parked the car - within 2 minutes a security guard drove up and enquired what I was doing. I informed him about the exhibition and he informed me it was closed on Monday and try again the next day. He was pleasant enough and give me a booklet on the exhibition and allowed me to dander around the estate. Unfortunately I did not get the chance to come back again.

Historic Hazelwood House is an 18th-century Palladian style country house located in a 70 acre estate in Calry located about 2 miles from Sligo town. The house is noted as the first Palladian house in Ireland designed by Richard Cassels (c.1730), the architect who designed Leinster House, Powerscourt House and Russborough House. He was strongly influenced by the Palladian style of architecture as inspired by the designs of architect Andrea Palladio (!508 - 1580).

Throughout the Medieval period the area belonged to the O'Connors before passing to the merchant Andrew Crean in the early 17th century, then to Lord William Strafford. Eventually in 1722 Lieutenant-General Owen Wynne bought the estate and it remained within the ownership of the Wynne family until 1923.
The house then stood empty until 1930, when a retired tea planter named Berridge lived there, carrying out repairs and renovations before the house and lands were sold to the Land Commission and the State Forestry Department in 1937.

In 1941 the house was briefly occupied by the Army and in.1969 it was sold again to the Italian manufacturing company SNIA. to use as part of a nylon yarn factory complex which they built to the rear of the house. The factory closed in 1983 and was acquired in 1987 by the South Korean company Saehan Media who produced video tapes on the site until 2005.

The property was sold in 2006 to Foresthaze Developments and was recently purchased by software developer developer David Raethorne who who has pledged to transform it into a tourist destination. He is currently renovating the house and busy establishing a craft distillery, restaurant and various arts initiatives on the site. There is an exhbition running currently in what used to be the industrial space turning an eyesore into a place of beauty. There is also a lovely cafe and plenty of space for parking.

Hazelwood House is definitely worth a visit - a short drive from the town and in its infancy as a public space, it is really interesting to see what the new owners have in mind for its future, which promises to be very bright indeed. A trip to the house/ex-factory can also be incorporated with a walk around Hazelwood park which follows the lake and is stunningly beautiful. Leave plenty of time to do both and it makes for a great day out

Expected a tired old wreck of a building that had no future. Just shows how wrong I was. An amazing and delightful exhibition of huge, enormous, massive (and small) art.
You'll never see anything like this.

Going through the blue door feels a bit like falling down Alices rabbit hole into wonderland. The old Sehan Media/Snia site and Hazelwood House and grounds is being developed into a distillery among other things.
The combination of the building and the the exhibition make it feel like a surreal experience. The grounds are stunning and judging by plant life ( orchids & Hugh rhododendrons) undisturbed. A real gem and an adventure finding it as exhibition is not well signposted
