We took what we thought would be a fun cooking class at this school. It turned out to be anything but. First of all it was oversold, so there were not enough workstations for everyone. As a result, we worked in teams. But the school has a policy that no one in the same family can work together. Almost everyone was in a family traveling group and some rarely saw the members of the family due to jobs located in other cities or students attending university. On vacation, you generally want to be with the people you are traveling with. This seems to be a silly rule for people taking a pleasure cooking class. No one in our class was thinking of becoming a chef. This was just supposed to be a fun activity while traveling in Provence.

The actual teaching was rather minimal. Because we were in teams the chef could not be with everyone and things were not explained to the whole group. You moved from station to station without seeing how the recipe got to the point it was when you inherited and not knowing how it would get the the final product. So you had snippets of the preparation of all the dishes that go into a three-course meal. Note that the chef has all the necessary credentials to teach, but does not have a warm personality and does very little teaching.

On top of paying top dollar for the class, we actually prepared the food for a large number of the chef's guests. Not only that, we were also responsible for serving and deserving these guests. Personally I found this insulting. I've taken many cooking classes for fun and this is the first time I experienced something like this. These guests were having their wine glasses constantly refilled while we were doing the between courses preparation, so that by the end of the meal they were feeling no pain.

The setting of the cooking class is beautiful and the Mas is worth a visit to see the grounds but the rest seems to be a real expensive tourist trap.
