This 8-day tour with hosts Michael and Nancy Morizio and culinary expert and food writer Domenica Marchetti was a trip of a lifetime and dream come true! You will learn about the beauty and richness of the region, people and cuisine of this incredible part of Italy; however, most of all, you will be expertly and warmly guided throughout by hosts Michael and Nancy who well researched the area and made genuine and long-lasting connections where you will feel like you are 'at home.' The energy and enthusiasm that this dynamic and professional trio exude throughout the trip is highly noteworthy and most of all.....you will make new and lasting friendships. Also, hats off to our extremely professional and friendly driver of the van! Bravo!!

This was a life-changing experience for us and made all the more significant for the astonishing hospitality, friendship and knowledge of Michael, Nancy and Domenica.

We were part of an eight-day tour of the Abruzzo region run by Michael and Nancy from AbruzzoPresto. Domenica Marchetti the cook and food writer also accompanied us.

During the eight days we had a full itinerary of visits to small, boutique food producers, small, out-of-the-way trattoria, hill-top towns, and cultural sites that had been lovingly curated for us by Michael, Nancy and Domenica.

We sampled an enormous range of local foods and wines, and everything had been hand-picked and, in some cases, put on especially for us. Every day was packed with different experiences, and the team were careful to cater for a wide range of tastes.

What was perhaps most telling were the small touches and gestures of kindness and quality that the three tour leaders showed us. From gifts in our rooms at the end of the day, to small surprises when we found a food or drink that we really loved.

Everywhere we went was a producer or provider that either Michael, Nancy and Domenica knew, and their ability to speak fluent Italian helped us make purchases and find new culinary treats.

And they never stopped. Throughout the whole week they were happy and smiley, courteous and helpful, always going out of their way to be hospitable.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience if you enjoy Italian food and are keen to explore a surprisingly unspoiled and little-known part of Italy. We would heartily recommend this tour and AbruzzoPresto to anyone. You will not be disappointed!

We had a personalized tour for 3 of us organized by Michael. After listening to us about what kinds of things we wanted to do and what we were interested in, Michael created a tour that met our desires. And he was very flexible in adjusting his proposed tour when we wanted to make an adjustment. It was a great tour. Michael and Nancy could not be the tour guides because we went in August when they were on their vacation, but they arranged for another tour guide from Abruzzo, Antonio, who was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the art, architecture, geography, history, culture, food and wine of the region and he was very conscientious. And Michael who was supposed to be on vacation in the US, kept checking in with our tour guide to make sure that everything was all right and was even checking on the weather so that he could adjust the tour if the weather was not good.

Abruzzo is beautiful and we were taken to wonderful, special places. We travelled from interesting cities and villages, to the mountains where we cooked skewers of a special cut of lamb (an Abruzzo specialty) outside on the mountainside and where we visited a small artisanal cheese maker. We visited unspoiled villages where we saw artisans make lace, jewelry and ceramics which they have been making for centuries. We visited churches and chapels with fine frescoes and architecture. We visited a 12th abbey and its tiny oratorio commissioned by Charlemagne in the 9th century with magnificent 12th century frescoes. We visited a Roman ruin.

We ate wonderfully - small trattorias and restaurants, a cheese farm, an agriturismo, to a Michelin one star restaurant. And all the food was homemade - the pasta, the bread, the pastry and cakes, the jams, the olive oil, etc. and much was organic. We visited cheese makers, a saffron grower, an olive oil producer, had a tour of pastry making from a well-known pastry maker, and had other culinary tours.

We stayed in a beautiful B&B and a wonderful agriturismo. The host and hostess at both places were friendly and helpful, as everyone we met in Abruzzo was. The breakfasts were varied with homemade cakes and jams, local cheeses, prosciutto, and other local food products.

Everyplace we went, they spoke about Michael and Nancy with fondness. It was a great tour.

Wow! The Abruzzo portion of our Italy vacation was extraordinary. Our tour hosts, Michael and Nancy Morizio, and culinary expert and author, Dominica Marchetti were organized, professional, flexible, fun, and caring. This small group (eight guests total) adventure is off the beaten path and affords the traveler to be totally immersed in TRUE Italian culture.

As our group traveled via a 20-seat luxury van, through the Apennine mountains and Majella National Park from Sulmona to Pescara, we soaked in the beautiful scenery, learned the history and geography of the region, watched shepherds with their sheep, and caught glimpses of ancient shepherd huts, medieval villages tucked into mountain sides, and ruins of bygone fortresses, towers, and walls. Striving to accommodate their guests, our hosts expertly showcased the Abruzzo area they love so much.

From a gourmet, alfresco picnic to a family feast that we helped create, we wanted for nothing: being wined, dined and pampered throughout our trip. Activities were numerous and varied- never having to sit too much on travel days, we would stop every hour or so to hike to medieval villages, tour churches, or venture through small gorgeous towns and shops. Throughout our trip, we were privileged to meet talented artisans, farmers, and vintners who were eager to demonstrate their skills and teach us about their family owned businesses and passions.

The farm to table, freshness, and “slow food” experience was a fabulous change of pace and “lesson learned.” At the alfresco picnic, numerous restaurants, a family home, and at our hotel and
B & B we had the opportunity to sample a plethora of delectable Abruzzo entrees and fabulous wines. Our hosts speak Italian; so, they would efficiently place our food orders, translate for artisan presenters, and communicate with and/or translate for us as we attempted to communicate with artisans or business owners, and restaurateurs. Finally, Domenica treated us to fabulous cooking demonstrations and afforded us hand-on cooking experiences that we will remember forever.

This was a fabulous trip, and a 5 out of 5 rating just doesn’t seem high enough! Bravo!

Presto Abruzzi - custom tours in Abruzzi

My friend and I just finished a 6 day culinary tour with Abruzzo Presto operated by Nancy & Michael Morizio and cookbook author Domenica Marchetti. Usually Nancy and her husband Michael lead the group. Unfortunately Michael had health issues which took him away for most of the trip.

This is much more than a culinary tour: we toured many medieval cities, visited ceramicists, jewelers, a bakery, a cheesemaker and learned pasta making "the Italian way" from a resident of San Tommaso followed by dinner that featured fresh pasta created with our own hands. With fourteen people at their family table, our hosts poured wine from their cellar and cooked several delicious pasta dishes with homemade meatballs and sausages ending with glorious piping hot donuts and a digestive liqueur to ease us out the door. This is just one amazing meal- we had many of these throughout this week.

Over the course of our six days we ate at many small chef-owned restaurants throughout Abruzzi. We tasted regional cheeses, learned about olive oil from an olive oil sommelier, toured an artisanal pasta factory, a saffron grower and a wonderful vineyard with wine pairings and lunch. Each night we received wrapped gifts from the vendors and artists we had visited that day.

The attention to detail, Nancys gracious manner and the Morizio's connections to many unique sites made this trip seamless. Domenica's knowledge of Italian cuisine and culture helped us to understand important Abruzzese food and customs. Walking through towns, piazzas, farmers markets, Roman and medieval cities and churches made this tour memorable in every way. We traveled each day in a 12-16 passenger bus. Everything was included- 3 meals a day, wine, snacks and behind the scene tours.

Hard to describe this amazing week and our great hosts! Abruzzi Italy is a gem on the brink of discovery by tourists-don't wait!

If you love Italy as we do, ie, enjoy sight-seeing coupled with excellent food, wine and hospitality you will love this tour. Tour company owners Michael and Nancy Morizio are very accommodating while maintaining a professional demeanor. They have charismatic personalities and appropriately high energy levels necessary to keep up the pace for efficient use of every minute. Their excellent planning and research paid off with every day of the tour exceeding our expectations. Food writer, Italian food expert and cooking teacher par excellence, Domenica Marchetti completes their astute leadership team. Truly, every effort was made to ensure a happy experience. We were lucky with the weather at the end of September '15 - as it is a time of year that could have been less hospitable, based on weather reports we were tracking prior to the trip last fall. On our one drizzly day, Nancy and Michael were adept at adjusting the itinerary. Abruzzo Presto! provided everything we'd wished for: access to special sites, opportunity to interact with friendly Italians (I'm not only talking about shop keepers - while there were opportunities to buy things, there were no "canned" demos where you are pressured to buy-), tour the countryside in a comfortable vehicle as passengers, eat and drink very well at interesting restaurants presided over by proud owners and, one day, at a family home - I smile every time I think of that day! Bravo! Abruzzo Presto!

We traveled with Michael and Nancy Morizio of Abruzzo Presto in Sept 2015 on their annual one-week "culinary tour" that was also accompanied by cookbook author Domenica Marchetti. For us it was much more than that. Food and wine were certainly a focus, but so was history, culture, art, architecture, scenic beauty and especially, family heritage. I knew I had family in Abruzzo, where my father was born, but distance and language were barriers that I could not seem to breach. I even had a possible connection with a family member there who had done "some work" on our family tree, but couldn't connect with him.

Michael and Nancy stepped in to fill the breach, using what little information I could supply to connect with my distant cousin Aurelio, who it turned out was the historian of the village in which my family had llived for many generations, and which we subsequently visited on the "heritage" extension of our tour. They met with Aurelio before our trip and he shared with them the fruits of his work tracing our family tree back to 1696. Through Aurelio, they contacted my family in the town where my father was born and arranged a joyful family reunion luncheon there on our extended tour, at which I met two of my father's first-cousins and and their descendants. I am happy to say that we have remained in contact with the family through social media, and I can't wait to return with other members of my immediate family.

This life-enhancing expereince would never have been possible were it not for the efforts Michael and Nancy extended on our behalf, people they had not even met yet in person. Distance and language were bridged thorugh their intervention, and at our family reunion, we made them honorary members of our family.

All this occurred after seven glorious days touring the wonders of Abruzzo, and there are many. Through Michael and Nancy and the personal relationships they have built over the years, we experienced the absolute best of Abruzzo. After several months I still feel a connection to the people and places we came to love -- an incredibly life-enhancing experience!

Wow Marguerite, there are so many beautiful mentions in there about us and our tours. Thank you from the heart (di cuore). Nancy and I are proud to now be "honorary members of the Subranni family," no joke. You have a wonderful family and we plan to visit them during our stays in Abruzzo. You and Jim are treasures, and we wish you all the best! When we come to Detroit, we'll look you up, I promise.

The owners of Abruzzo Presto, Mike and Nancy, are a passionate couple who love to share their Abruzzian culture, food, wine and friends with others. They created a full day of savoring this rich region, its products and making new friends for 8 people. We went to a 300 year old olive oil factory where we learned the art of tasting olive oil, drank their homemade wine and were treated to trays of antipasti. We visited the Truffle Farmer's store who provided white truffles for George Clooneys' wedding. The staff were very gracious and gave each of us truffle treats to taste and also to take home. The wine of this region is excellent and we were privileged to visit one of the newer vineyards, Fontefico, in the town of Vasto. We savored several of their wines while enjoying spectacular fresh food prepared in front of us. Knowing my husband loves opera, Mike and Nancy, both opera singers, sang a few arias from various operas. What a treat!! Recognizing on our request form that it was my birthday the next day, Mike and Nancy had the vintners mother make an absolutely delicious cake to celebrate. Every place we toured, it was evident that Mike and Nancy had made such good friends and we all now feel we have become a part of that circle of friends. They went above and beyond, to make this day tour very special. Having lived in Italy and traveled to many areas areas, I found Abruzzo to be so genuine, unspoiled, quiet and welcoming. If you want to get a taste of Abruzzo, book a day or a week tour with ABRUZZO PRESTO!!! You will not be disappointed.

Debbie, you guys were so much fun! It is obvious that all 4 couples have traveled together many times. Once we got to the vineyard and had their lunch and fine wines, performing a concert for you all was very easy - I just wish we could have hung out there another day, don't you? Thanks for asking us to put the tour together for you. Nancy and I are looking forward to your return with Bob to find his family on a custom Heritage Tour. Ciao for now...

I was so fortunate to have a custom, food-focused 4 day tour with Nancy and Michael in May 2015, whom will both surely be lifelong friends of mine from here on out. As an Abruzzese-American and a chef, I was overwhelmed by the care and detail that were put into my experience, as well as the custom "improvising" of the tour once they got to know me a bit. They are so much fun and made my experience incredibly memorable beyond words. I look forward to traveling with them again soon. They are surely unparalleled when it comes to custom tours of this beautiful region!

Hey Mikdp17, come on, you were a ringer! In the land where even the rest of Italians around the boot say "in Abruzzo si mangia bene" (in Abruzzo you eat well!), we couldn't miss touring you, 'the Chef,' around. Those Abruzzese cooks were so proud to let you taste their specialties and to even see their kitchens - all of them, even the Michelin Star! Even Angelo, the famous mostaccioli baker. It was just a lot of fun hanging out with you, drinking great wine and eating way too much food. But you asked for it, didn't ya? Now, how about Nancy and I come to NY and you show us around?? Plus, I know you lost your heart to Abruzzo - it's in your blood. So, we'll see you there again, I'm sure of it :-).
