I booked a combined ticket tour...the baptistry closed (not told this) ticket indicated it was open!
Lots of area in repair or needing it kerbs and walking area dangerous...unlevelled. Slipped once and fell another.
Scaffolding over an important Cosmos fresco etc etc.

Stayed for 3 nights in Pisa and travelled to Florence by train one day.
Whilst in Pisa we visited the tower and were very impressed with its size and view from the top. The structure is fascinating and we were intrigued at the angle it sits.
Some lovely little independent restaurants and cafes.
Walked the city wall, very cheap to do at a couple of Euros, and not that well advertised, but worth an hour of two.

The leaning tower and it's grounds are the only attraction in Pisa. Inside the compound area of the tower is heavily guarded with military personnel carrying machine guns. Outside the tower area is very nice and clean but is not patrolled or protected in any way. The main parking lot is very large and clean with plenty of parking spaces. People are everywhere, coming and going, with shuttle service drivers watching the parking lot for potential riders. We arrived in the parking lot at noon on a bright sunny day with all our belonging in the car. Within one hour or less our car was broken into and all our luggage was stolen. BROAD DAYLIGHT. Nobody reported it even though the thief's broke out a window and removed 5 suitcases, two backpacks and a carryon bag and would have to have had a large car or van to carry away all our luggage. The police would not come out and investigate the crime, we had to go to them. The police gave a report form to fill out and then told us there was nothing they could do for us and to go home. There was four other couples at the police station at the same time as us reporting the same type of crime. Those couples also lost everything they had. While talking to the people who work in and around the parking lot we were told that this type of crime happens many times a day everyday and the police DO NOT CARE.

When in Florence take the train from central station and stroll around in this amazing site finding yourself in the middle of the most photographed Tower of Europe. It 's less than an hour ride and much cheaper and easy. The queues are quite big, but even if you haven't booked your tickets you can take your pictures in the open air for free. Best place to buy leather wallets with great designs

Filled with tourist traps and holiday trinkets the monuments are beautiful and well maintained. Good quality food is available as well as cheap eats, some amazing hotels and prices are reasonable.

This is a must see! Absolutely beautiful. The grounds were well maintained and the surrounding restaurants and shops were quaint and welcoming.

When you think of Pisa you automatically think leaning tower and cathedral. After this I was pushed to think of something else that Pisa may offer. As such I would highly recommend staying in Florence and making a day trip to Pisa. I decided to visit the tower after getting to the airport early for my flight back home. The bus from the airport to the tower is a mere 10 minutes. You can tell you have arrived as before you walk through the archway you are accosted by stalls selling souvenirs and a McCafe!!!! However, once you walk through the archway you are presented with a great view of the cathedral and the tower. The tower is smaller than I imagined but that is down to me. You can have a lovely walk around the grounds and buy tickets to visit the interior of the cathedral and if you wish, climb to the top of the tower. On the whole I was slightly disappointed by the tower and the town. But I would recommend a day visit only as there are more things to see in Florence.

Although the tower was nice, our car was broken into within 2 hours of landing in Italy. We parked just off the main street in Pisa. Lots of people walking by and it seemed very safe. Less than ninety minutes later we returned to broken glass and three missing carry on bags. The Caribinieri (federal cops) were no help. The local cops were sorry but could do nothing. The were too busy writing parking tickets. They did not want to know what was stolen. They just gave us the address of the local Police Station so we could file a report. They would not take a report. We called American Express to file a claim. They said that we were not covered in Iraq, Afghanistan, Italy and a couple more lawless areas. Not a good list to be on. Not to mention you are constantly harassed by street hustlers from Senegal.

A wonderful city well worth a visit. Decided not to drive into the city as we stayed about 30kms away so decided to get a train then found it was on strike. We were in fact glad in the end found a bus stopped outside our hotel and dropped us off 100 metres away the leaning tower. The old streets are fabulous with lots to see and buy. We ate at a taverna near the tower had a huge pizza. This is a lovely city and well worth the visit.
