Got off at the halfway stop of the tram to look around here. Was really interesting and absolutely fascinating how the area was mined

Very interesting mine, only suggestion would be a few stops inside with info and possibly dummies set up as if they were working as they would have done. There are warnings about steps but the terrain can also be steep.

Very informative short video at the beginning which sets the scene of what you are about to see in the mines. As you walk around the mines the little pieces of information give the story of what it was like to mine the copper many years ago, which gives a sense of how awful it must have been, especially for the children. Some areas do need a little more lighting though, to fully see down some of the longer tunnels. The small gift and book shop are also interesting to look around. Only suitable for people with good mobility as some of the slopes are quite steep as you explore the tunnels. Well worth a visit.

Fascinating to think that the site was worked up to 4000 years ago. We spent just over an hour here. Worth combining with a trip up to Great Orme for amazing views.

My young kids are obsessed with Minecraft and were really excited to go into a real mine, find ore and see smelting. Although the smelting part was just a video they really enjoyed the whole process. A great walk through the tunnels (obviously not for the mobility-challenged) and a really nice extra bonus on the Orme.
If you're on the tram you may be best off doing this museum on the way down as you get off at half way, where you switch trams. Trying to do it on the way up might see you struggle to get on the second tram at busy times.
Excellent video at the beginning sets the scene, but it's a really good hands on experience physically getting into the mine for all ages.
Great gift shop too - ask the owner for the story about the cat.

If you have a sense of adventure, and can manage stairs (outside & inside the mining tunnels) & some sloping surfaces underground & several narrow and low overhead passages through the mine spaces, then my wife & I encourage you to visit the Great Orme Copper Mines for a Bronze Age experience you won’t soon forget. We are a couple of seniors of average height & in average physical shape (for Americans), but we both felt like kids again as we walked & ducked our way through the approx. 200 metres of mining tunnels in the top two levels of the excavated historic site. Our hard hats spared each of us from trauma on a few head knock occasions, but the narrow bits were probably the most challenging parts of our self-guided tour. You just have to take your time as you progress through the tunnels & whilst on the stairs, being sure to pause & read the descriptive signs scattered round the publicly accessible spaces (underground & above ground).
The stories told by the Visitor Centre museum displays & the introductory movie & the signage around the mining site are fascinating; and the exploration experience is well worth the admission fee & the approx. 1 hour the average visitor will spend there. You can drive up the Great Orme & use the site’s car park, or you can ride the Great Orme Tramway like we did & walk to the Visitor Centre from the Halfway Station. You can also hike up the Orme, for those who can spare the energy. By any of those methods of access, you’ll be transported to a much earlier time and gain a sense of appreciation for the ingenuity & endurance of the Bronze Age people who did all of the work required to turn the copper ore into products worth their weight in gold.

A very interesting bronze age site. We didn't know anything about this Bronze Age copper mine and bronze smelting site before we visited following picking up a tourist information leaflet. It seems such an important site for the UK as before its discovery in 1987 we didn't have any evidence of the Bronze Age production in the UK but it seems our output of bronze was the highest in Europe from excavation work since 1987. The introductory video was very good and walking around the sections of cave which are open is fascinating. Especially when you consider they mainly would have been using large rocks and animal bones to make the caves in the first place. The videos showing how the bronze was smelted was just as interesting. Our kids are 5 and 7 and enjoyed walking through the caves.

I want to visit the ski centre, mines and cable cars in the same day. Does the cable car go to either of these attractions? Can anyone recommend which order we should visit the attractions in?

The cable car goes from Happy Valley to the Summit. So does not go directly to either the mines or the ski centre. If you’re riding the cable car for the mines, get off at the summit station and walk down the hill, alongside the road for about 10-15 minutes. Then you’ll see the mines. For the ski centre best to walk up the hill following the signs for the ski centre from Happy Valley station before or after riding the cable car. Alternatively drive. There is no road on the Orme that connects the mines and the ski centre, so to go from one to the other, unless you’re on foot, after visiting one of these attractions you need to head back into town and go back to the Orme another way. Also worth noting that the cable car is weather dependent and cash only.
