We attended Friday 8th December for our works Xmas party.
It's soulless on arrival looks like the entry to some grotty office.
We got a welcome drink prosecco or prosecco with Chambord it would have been nice as in our previous venue to offer bottles of beer on arrival for the non fizz drinkers.
Up in the room itself other than table centre peices there was no clue it was Xmas no cracker ,no party poppers nothing.
I wasn't bothered there was no choice of food ,the soup was ok but no butter for the bread which I found strange.
The main ,the meat was dry but in these sort of functions it often is as they're more concerned not to kill you than provide a nice meal do it's cooked within an inch of it's life.
The veg portion was pretty mean hardly any gravy though being fair we were told to ask for extra if required.
The dessert I actually liked but all but two of us on our table didn't touch it ,but the majority were east European so maybe it's a cultural thing don't know.
The entertainment got the young uns dancing but was very very low rent.
Bar service was a joke there were loads running about taking table orders 7 or 8 behind the bar but the service was a shambles.
Bar prices for beer and spirits I didn't find terrible but a few of our youngsters were moaning at £14 for a double vodka and red bull.
The wine prices £29 for the cheapest bottle of wine and £41.50 for prosecco was however taking the mickey.
Myself and my partner had booked a taxi days before for 11.30pm but as expected those that stayed to the butter end reported the usual mayhem for taxis.
Overall I found it out the way from the city centre ,overpriced ,and low rent .
I won't return to the racecourse for any reason.

Had a great time at Carlisle
A very nice course and good facilities
Prices are a little higher than average and a big problem for me is that they are a credit card only business. I want the choice to pay by card or cash.
Food in the owners restaurant was excellent and the staff were great

If you like horse racing or have never been before, this is a great place to visit. Easy parking and not as overwhelming as the larger courses. Very reasonably priced and good quality food and drinks. Only drawback being the fact that the sections of the course are hidden by a mound. A large screen ensures you see what is going on. Very friendly staff.

We visited the Racecourse on Saturday 8th April 2023 for the ‘dinosaur day’ and paid £22 a head with children under 18 going free. We weren’t driving so couldn’t say what the parking was like, there was a small queue when we got there but we got in quite quickly passed security. The place looked clean and the toilets were serviced well throughout the day but as the day went on there was no toilet roll or hand towels and no staff around like there had been earlier in the day. The queue for the limited overpriced drinks was huge, all day, the queue for food was a little quicker. There was little food choice and no child options, all £8 with a handful of chips, the burgers and rolls were dry and had no taste and the cheese slice tasted like plastic. The drinks cups were that cheep we kept spilling drinks when we picked the cups up. The family day included some large dinosaurs, ranger training, a couple of baby dinosaurs, face painting, and a bouncy castle all free. The large dinosaurs were ok but not out for long, the ranger training was odd, the bouncy castle was tiny with huge queues and the queue for face painting was about an hour and half, when we finally got to the front we were told it would be quick as there wasn’t enough time. I appreciate the weather was excellent so the racecourse would have been very busy, but this in my opinion wasn’t a family day, maybe a few more options to play on, some stalls for kids (food, sweets etc.) paying £22 to simply get through the door to what is poor at best is frustrating but then to have poor entertainment on top of that is massively disappointing. Wish we had brought a picnic blanket and our own food and drink, but wasn’t aware this was possible having read some of the comments. We’re put off going back, sadly. And be aware this is a cashless venue, where you can only use cash for betting.

Limited dining options, reasonable value for money but very difficult to get to no public transport especially on a Sunday , advertised courtesy coach didn’t run ! poor atmosphere low numbers despite nice setting due to bad taxi, bus arrangements The Jockey Club management is disappointing here …

If you are a racegoer , then watch out for Steak Nights here. They are good value and the restaurant is attractive with good view of track. All the various families are attractive and grounds well kept, nothing seedy here. Range of nearby accommodation if you wish overnight stay.

We have been going to Carlisle Races for many years but due to the passing of my father in law (who was the main reason) we have not been for a while. We were Annual Members and it used to be good value with agreeable facilities. We visited yesterday and it found it to be most unwelcoming. Our first encounter at the entrance was a security "gorilla" who was insisting on searching everyone's bag - even ladies small handbag - as these days you cannot take a picnic or drink of any type into the course. He even searched the wrapping of my picnic chair admitting that he was looking for food. Strange as it was a family day with lots of children attending. They have also stopped trackside parking amaenity even though it is clearly marked on the course website map and the space was still there. Most racecourses encourage visitors to bring picnics but clearly Carlisle is now just a money making venture and only interested in selling rubbish food or the corporate hospitality side. Sod the ordinary punter! And annual members, who used to have access to a pleasant lounge with good viewing, now have a couple of basic huts only one of which has a toilet and the other a machine serving lousy coffee. The only positive was the good viewing for the racing so we will be choosing another course for our future racing visits. A major deterioration of what used to be a friendly place. Deplorable greed!

Had a truly great evening at Carlisle Racecourse and it was well worth the visit. Plenty of seating or places to watch the racing, nice food at various places and everyone was incredibly friendly with staff dotted all around smiling and saying hello. The whole place was immaculately tidy - not a bit of rubbish anywhere, flowers and grounds looked great and the ladies toilets were spotlessly clean at the end of the evening, clearly everyone takes huge pride in the entire course!
Highly recommend a visit!

We enjoyed a superb hospitality package at Swifts Restaurant yesterday. The food , was excellent, the staff could not have done any more to make our day a truly memorable one. A delightful lady came and charmingly enquired if everything was to our satisfaction, and we were sat at a very well presented table in an impressive room
We all said we will definitely do this again.

There was a free shuttle bus service into Carlisle on that evening I’m not sure it’s every race day but usually when there’s a big event on after the racing
