Fathom and Blues team have now relocated onto the island and are now called Dive Beyond. Dived with them today and found the same professional and friendly service as at their previous location.

I've spent 2 times at F&B, the first got me up to Advance Power Boat and the second I became a dive instructor. Before I even arrived a had received a detailed schedule and joining instructions. After a train journey and short bus ride I was outside the pub and was welcomed with a smile and shown to my room. The rooms are simple and refreshing with tea and coffee making facilities. Outside are views of a tatty wind sock hanging off a pole and Portland. Breakfast is good, the hardest thing is deciding whether to try and be healthy or go for a full english.

The diving/boat courses are well run with experianced staff (just ask to see Dale's PICs) and they're more than happy to go over something if it hasn't sunk in. The pool sessions are done nearby and the classroom is well equiped manuals and folders of local dive sites. The dive shop below holds kit if you want to buy something new and shiny but you can hire pretty much anything you need or a decent dive.

The dive sites are surprisingly good, I'm used to diving where the sun is, but my first British dive had good visability and plenty of life to distract me.

Returning to the main building and being greeted by a nice hot cup of tea and toasted teacakes soon warms you up again. I can also recommend the cheesy beans on toast or jacket potato heaped with fillings. In the evening it is nice to head to the bar for a quick one or two before heading up for a bit of study. The curry house/chinese/fish & chippie all up the road were all very nice but didn't help my waistband.

In all a very good stay and can't wait to head back down south for another dip in the sea. Many thanks to Alex, Sue, Dale, Ron and Lee for making my stays awesome.

What a great couple of days we had there. We have never met a more patient team of people who gently guided my family through the facinating sport of scuba diving. From the moment we set foot in the training room all of us felt comfortable and were keen to learn. The pool dive was just the thing for us to practice in a safe environment. Then the long day of dives. Yes the start was a bit slow, but we were soon skimming over the waves to a very safe dive site. What a lot of patience shown by the team. However all of us managed to get into the water and get our heads under. The afternoon dive was even more relaxing. Finally a very understanding lady managed to get me under the water. The hugs said it all! All of my five boys and three guests enjoyed the experience and want to try again!!. More expense.

I visited F&B last week to do a couple of dives. It is a great set up for diving: there are good bedrooms, a pub, restaurant, a wet area for dive briefs etc, and a dive school - all in the same building - and the dive boat is moored a couple of minutes away. The business (pub / restaurant / dive school) is under new management - as of late last year - and Alex and Sue seem to have a great vision for building their dive school / B&B / pub to a very high standard.
From the outset, Alex, Sue and Lee were very helpful on the phone to make sure all was set up for our trip, and we could do the kind of diving we were after. We arrived late at night (after 10pm), and were shown our room. The rooms have recently been redeocrated and are simply and tastefully decorated. Decent curry house down the road for dinner, and then good breakfast in the morning.
Wet room works well as a briefing room / classroom (particularly if we had been a larger group).
Changing roomms and dive shop at the bottom of the pub lead out to a car park, and then a short walk in kit to the jetty. All very easy.
Diving was great - skipper was knowledgable, friendly and safe. Chocolate and hot drink after surfacing.
Back after the first dive for tea and sandwiches etc at F&B. The team have great local dive site knowledge - with plans / maps of the wrecks etc. Air fills / nitrox etc on site.
Sadly time did not allow us to sample the pub!
Overall, highly recommended. Really friendly set up, catering for all levels of diver, and very good £ value. Suited our needs really well, and I imgine would be great for club trips. They have planned a busy schedule going into the season - we will be back !!

Recently had the pleasure of doing a PADI dive course with these guys and can't recommend them enough. Friendly, professional, flexible and really nice people. Their course director is an absolute star and has a rep as one of the best around, must say that this is well deserved. If you are in the area, or even if you aren't but you need a PADI course, you can't go wrong with these guys.

I had always wanted to try scuba diving, so decided to do the PADI "discover scuba diving" one-day course at Fathom and Blues with my 15-year old son. The day was spilt into two sessions: a tutorial session which involved a flipchart presentation followed by an hour-and-a-half practical teaching session in the local swimming pool; then the next day a sea dive trip to a wreck outside Portland Harbour. Our instructor for the first session, Jez, and dive master for the sea dive, Steve, were both thoughroughly knowledgeable, friendly and professional. The sea dive was great - saw a lot of fish and other creatures in surprisingly clear water. Good value at £95 each for the whole course. Overall a great experience, highly recommended.

Whole heartedly disappointed with this dive centre. Customer service almost non-existant. This was our first dive at this dive centre and first in the UK however we were given no instruction on the day, layout, procedures etc, just left in the bar and then mocked when we hadn't followed the =
