This is a National Park that you will pass as you head towards Torrumbarry Weir, but if you veer from the main road and spend some time in there you find it's a special place. The serenity is amazing and you will hear birdlife around you as you walk.

The local Barapa Barapa people occupied this area for thousands of years and lived in harmony with the land, adapting to the changing conditions. They moved between the flood plain and the Mallee through the year, using available resources.

The area provided materials such as timber, bark and reeds and a variety of foods including mussels, fish, yabbies, birds’ eggs, possums and important plants such as cumbungi, nardoo and yam daisies. Evidence of Aboriginal occupation can still be found in the various scar trees, cooking mounds and middens.

It's a wonderful place to reset and reflect.

This is a large area (9330 HA) along the Murray River between Echuka and Koondrook. It has areas of wetland and basic scrub you see in the area. Not special but interesting.

A beautiful serene area with so many spots to set a camp. Our spot was dictated by the where the drop loo but it was a nice place. Plenty of bird life, eagles , water fowl, wrens and ducks and clear black night skies full of stars. And beautiful magnificent gum trees and the bush floor it kept relatively clear of debris. We liked it so much stayed an extra night. You can walk/ride the canoe trail cannot imagine the place before white settlement it must have been a paradise. The only things that spoilt it for me were the shotguns going off and this was every night quite distressing really and the traffic noise from the nearby road. But I guess the further in you go it would be less noisy.

Driving over the Old one way bridge at a time and listen to the shaking of the wooden planks(known as a Piano Bridge) The road was rough but had been graded to make it smooth. We passed lots of FREE camping spots and the Gunbower Creek was flowing quite well. It's a pity we didn't have our Fishing Lines as the area was so peace full and relaxing

Great walking tracks along Turtle Loop 13kms (approx 3.5hrs) and Eagle Loop 9.1km (approx 2.5hrs). Keep an eye out for Giant Bullfrogs, Squirrel Gliders, Inland Carpet Pythons & Broad Shelled Turtles along with a large range of bird life. Easy to spend a whole day with a picnic lunch. Toilet facilities available and short drive to town of Barham / Koondrook where you will find cafes , fuel, a few speciality shops as well as the local pubs & a club.
