Ian Anderson's Caves Branch Resort/Adventures was an experience of a lifetime. I recommend that you book for no less than 3 nights and 2 days of adventures, excursions and meals included. There is plenty to do for 5-6 days. Gorgeous reserve, deep in the jungle; exceptional accommodations; separate tree houses or bungalows. Spacious, modern ; indoor/outdoor showers. Fully screened in-we had no problem with bugs. Had exceptionally cool weather (68-75 F). No need for the small AC .Good Family style buffet
Check out the website for all of the adventures that they offer - from "mild" to "heart-dropping" We are 67 and 70 (among the older visitors at the resort), so went for the milder, although still vigorous, Cave Tubing, where we tubed into, then hiked and climbed partly through a Mayan cave, with an excellent guide (Wilmer), who provided us with great Mayan perspectives on history, rituals, and artifacts. I am not a great climber and Wilmer was there with me every step of the way.
We also took a full day (12 hour) visit to Tikal, the largest Mayan ruins site in Central America, in Guatemala. Caves Branch arranged everything very conveniently - drivers, an exceptional guide (Edgar), border crossing, etc. The ruins are deep-set in the jungle. Whole day included about 6 hours of driving, it was well worth it
Ian and his wife, Ella, are remarkable, friendly folks - full of knowledge that they readily share at mealtime with you. Highlights: jungle , super staff, adventures
