This place is amazing!! Their products are made respecting the environment and the artisans, promoting financial independence for women and local cultural heritage and traditions (instead of promoting exploration and environmental pollution as in the case of many carpet shops you can find on the streets). I’m an Italian researcher in the field of climate change and after discovering Anou a coupe years ago as a tourist, I actually engaged with them for my research work, given the value of their project! I also recommend the artist residency and different workshops you can do here. I spent a few weeks working and living with the artisans of Anou and it’s an incredible opportunity for anyone interested in arts and experiencing craftsmanship first-hand. I really enjoyed connecting with women artisans that are so knowledgeable, sweet and welcoming. You even get to dye the wool with natural processes, using flowers and plants, and create your own carpet with their help. For me it was like having a glimpse into local wisdom and millennia-old traditions of creating beautiful crafts, truly in harmony with the environment. I had such a great time here, could not recommend more!

I have been following The Anou cooperative on Instagram for years, and always found their work meaningful and impactful, but my admiration for what they do grew so much after I got to attend a weaving workshop and got to talk to the women artisans themselves about their experiences. It was very eye opening and a reminder of why we need more projects like The Anou for the emancipation of indigenous communities, particularly women.
Social impact aside, the workshop was very fun and we all had a genuinely great time. I strongly recommend booking a weaving workshop with your friends if you’re looking for a fun afternoon activity.
I have also purchased a personalized painting from artisan Nourdin Boukhir as a gift, it came out great, all my notes were taken into consideration, and didn’t take too long to be made.

Incredible experience all around! I stayed for one week doing a weaving residency where the artisans taught me how to spin wool, use natural dyes to dye yarn, and weave my own small rug. I learned so much from the workshops (the women are incredible at what they do and are very kind teachers), but what stays with me the most is how welcoming everyone was. Everyone was so friendly and supportive, and it really underscored their passion for sharing what they do with others. Beyond this, the space itself is beautiful. I had such a positive experience and absolutely recommend that everyone visiting Fes makes The Anou a part of their itinerary!

We had a pleasant morning at the workshop where we tried the weave art. With knowledgeable help from women on site, we created our first little blanket, and we got the story of how the organization helps women sell their crafts without intermediaries taking the majority of the profits.

I did a rug weaving workshop in Casablanca. It was a very nice experience and a lot of fun! Now I know how much work and effort it takes to create a rug by your hands. I am happy with my small rug and would recommend the workshop to anyone who wants to learn about Moroccan culture and artisans.

I participated in the rug weaving workshop with the Anou team, organized in Niya restaurant, I had so much fun, the experience itself is amazing and therapeutic. We spent over 4h totally disconnected, learning how to craft a rug , Rabha and Kenza are two artisans who came all the way from Fez to animate the workshop, they were very patient and they gave every participant the attention needed to complete each part of the workshop, they were truly amazing, and they definitely succeeded in showing us how true artisanal work is done, and how much effort can be put into it to make a good product.

A special thanks for Hamza who made sure to well present the Anou cooperative missions and values, and the great social impact/change they’re making in the rug craft community.

The Anou Cooperative does truly incredible work! My friend and I happened to hear about a workshop they were offering during our weekend in Casablanca. Not only was our weaving lesson instructional, relaxing, fun, and perfect for a rainy afternoon, the women teaching the class were incredibly kind and knowledgeable.

It was a wonderful experience. The Managing Director, Hamza, was really didactic and comprehensive. The craft womens helped us each time we had questions about the crafting of our small rug.

Anou is amazing! Best gift to myself during my short vacation was this workshop. The kindest, most fun organizers. They led a weaving workshop at this wonderful cafe called Niya, it was about 12 of us total, and I showed up alone. It was so supportive and flexible, lots of attention from the teacher to help me understand the art. It was just incredible to meet Moroccan textile artists and learn from true craftsmen. This was a once in a life time experience but felt like hanging out with my friends back home.
