Visited for emergency and animal rescue service: This center and the people who work there are amazing. I've lived in the area for decades, and every few years, sadly, I come across a wild animal who's injured or in need of help, and they have always been able to help. They cannot always save every animal that comes in, but that's the way with any emergency medical intervention. Most recently, I found a small nighthawk outside my local bank branch. While it could fly short distances, it simply sat, with eyes mostly closed, and it slowly scrabbled to get into the shade of the bank's awning on a very, very hot day. The bank staff came out, helped get him into a box, and I took him to the Center. The next day I called for an update, and sadly he had neurological issues and passed during the night. They evaluated him, hydrated him, cooled him off (he was suffering from the parking lot heat), gave him pain killers to make him comfortable.
To the reveiwer from 2019 who gave the center 1 star: I understand the hearbreak of your bringing in a little racoon that the center could not save. But again, they are not MAGIC. When they can, they help mend the animals. When they cannot, they are a hospice service, JUST LIKE FOR HUMANS. Mr or Ms 2019 reviewer, I pitty the day you learn the same is true for the humans you know - not everyone who is ill or injured can be cured or saved. It is truly a sad lesson, but it is not a reason to denograte the people who dedicate their life's work to helping. So when it happens to someone you know, please do not attack the doctors and nurses the way you've attacked the people who operate this center.
They had a $90 medical bill for taking care of and playing hospice to the little nighthawk I brought in, but when I asked how much the bill was, they told me "we don't charge, we're just happy you brought him in out of the heat where he could be safe and cool and hydrated for the time he had left." So today I'm going to be donating $90 to the Center.
I want to know these places and these people exist to mind the little creatures no one else would care for. I want to know that they'll do their best. I want to know, even if the animal cannot be saved, that the animal is safe, and as comfortable as possible until the end. Even if that means the best course is in euthanizing a creature. I love this Center for all of that.

I am partial to this Center as I have volunteered here on and off for over 10 years. It's where I learned SO MUCH about native species of flora and fauna, for free! I have kept many wonderful friendships through the years of volunteering here. Willowbrook rehabilitates injured and orphaned native wildlife and releases them back to the wild when recovered or fully grown. A great place. A great experience. If you have one morning or afternoon a week to spare I highly recommend that you look into volunteering here. You'll be so glad you did!

This is a low-key, zero or low-cost (suggested donation) way to enjoy a morning or afternoon with the grandkids. The rehabilitation of different animals on the grounds (Sandhill Cranes, Fox, Raccoon, Turkey Vultures) are an easy way for little ones to get an up-close look at various wildlife without having to park and pay for a bigger attraction. Don't miss the lovely hiking loop just over the bridge behind the center --- the prairie restoration and small pond are just the right size for a short walk. Indoors are some opportunities for nature-play and some bird, turtle, and reptile encounters. Nice for the kiddos to know about their animal hospital; we've taken injured birds and squirrels here (teaches compassion). Expanded parking and picnic areas are a bonus.

Before we decided go here with a raccoon with slight injuries, we spoke to the employees and saw the place. They made it seem like they are trustworthy people. This is absolutely NOT the case. This is a very large area with many cages where they can help a lot of animals. This is simply an attempt to show humane efforts, but in reality they are cruel.
Many years ago we brought a squirrel here with more extensive injuries and it was put down. We should have learned from our mistake and not come here again, however, we thought they could help this young raccoon. With their pathetic attempt to help this animal that could have lived, they resorted to murdering a young raccoon.
Every person that comes here, gives a donation in hopes that they are doing a good thing. STAY AWAY. These people do not help; they are cruel, careless, and take your money without any remorse to animals that could live. They brag about how many animals they have helped, but the amount they put down is staggeringly higher.
I will never go here again and neither should anyone else.

This center takes in injured wildlife. If they can completely recover the animal is released back into the wild. Those animals that recover but cannot survive in the wild they go into their zoo. So they a zoo with birds that can no longer fly and many animals. Great place for the kids. They depend on donations, so please help them out so they can help these misfortune creatures.

This was a delightful trip with the grandkids, 10,9, and 5. They never get tired of looking as the birds, reptiles and animals inside and outside. They are older now so they can read the fact sheets about why the animals are at Willowbrook. We walked the "forest" and spotted, birds, ducks and interesing things on the path. We talked with a volunteer and found out many interesting facts. A little over and hour of fresh air, exercise and learning!

Thought this is a small facility the work they do is huge! It is a great place to take hurt wildlife for rehabilitation. It also is a wonderful place to see our native species up close. There are both short and longer trails if you like to hike the animal habitats.
I love this place and find it very a relaxing bit of Mother Nature in all seasons.

A wildlife rehab and educational center, offers a close up experience for native wildlife. They also provide care and treatment to injured native wildlife.
Visitor center has small animals, birds, and fish to view. A child area with games and puzzles and perhaps a turtle or rabbit to pet.
Outside exhibits are larger birds and animals to view as well as a butterfly garden. Further there are short trails through a nature preserve with prairie grasses, wildflowers, trees, and a marsh.
There's a picnic area off the parking lot and a staff member was showing an owl to a group of children.
This is all free so please make a donation or purchase a gift shop item to help the cause. Wonderful facility for kids of all ages!
