These are the worse greens I’ve ever played. Not just one or a few. Every green was like this. It’s not putting. It’s hitting and hoping for the best. Burned out and crab grass everywhere. Makes me wonder if the course manager has ever heard of pre emergent treatments for such problems. I won’t ever be back to play this course again.

Just another mismanaged course. It was in decent shape, not very challenging. Problem is no marshals on the course. Groups ahead of us jerking around and holding up play. 5 plus hour round. Will not be back. Too many other better managed courses out there.

Stopped for a quick round. Clubhouse attendant was great.
Greens were in good shape.
Fairway and rough were embarrassing. 3” fairways and rough with huge clumps of grass. Could be a great course with better maintenance.

First, I'm not a beginner, but I don't play that much, so I would classify my game as a beginner's game. In other words, I need a lot of practice to play a competitive game.
Also keep in mind that my Wife and I only played the front 9.
What I liked about the course:
Fairways are fairly wide compared to a few other courses that I play. Greens were in fairly good condition (fast). I did some of my best putting on these greens. Sand boxes were not very sandy, so they were a little easier to chip from. The course is beautiful - Not the most beautiful, but very nice. The course was not very crowded which takes a little pressure off us beginners. We went on a Monday.
What I didn't like about the course:
Maybe a little expensive - $14 green fees, $8 cart fees, $2 key deposit. Add all that up including a couple of bottled waters and we hit $50 for 9 holes (2 people) - Ouch. I had a hard time finding a few of my shots in the rough. The height of the grass was fine, but the leaves and clover just made it impossible to find a few of my shots. I did find a few others which kind of made up for my lost shots.
In summary, the course is a municipal course, so don't expect PGA grade anything. Interested in playing a little golf in Louisville and don't mind the fees, go for it! If you're super competitive and expect the best, then maybe look somewhere else. Do call before going, we had a Women's league go through before us. We knew they were there because we called.

...It is inexpensive
...It's very playable for the beginner golfer and easy to walk
...Nice folks in clubhouse
...Greens in okay condition for this time of year
...Even though the course was packed the play moved along quickly
...Awesome chicken salad sandwich in the pro shop

...Bunkers looked like pea gravel and many had standing water in them

I knew this was a municipal course, but I always thought "Shawnee" was a nice place. That could not be farther from fact. The tee boxes aren't bad and the greens were in pretty good shape (held the ball on approach, but still not super slow). The fairways, however, were awful. Tufts of grass dotted mud. The rough was not mowed and was predominantly clover...about 6" tall. Any ball hit in the rough could be lost as it settles and cannot be seen easily. There is no dress code. Other patrons were wearing sleeveless t-shirts and cutoff denim shorts. The layout of the course is challenging on some holes so there is merit in the course design. But until the city puts some effort into this course, Shawnee is not worth playing at $26 (plus a $2 deposit on the cart key).
