What a great day fishing! I contacted Captain Dave of Pelican State Fishing Charters to take me, my two young (7 & 9) kids, cousin, and cousin's 13-year-old fishing. So glad I did. Captain Dave was amazing with the kids - patient and fun. He was incredibly knowledgeable and an excellent teacher for the kids and had great tips and tricks for the more seasoned adults. I've fished reds and specs many times before, and still came away learning new things. Captain Dave took time to engage all the kids based on their age and skills. He keeps an orderly boat and made sandwiches and had cold drinks.
We did well on the fish. Everyone on the boat got their Bull Red! We had a nice eclectic mix of sheepshead, specs, slot reds, and bass. He had us on fish all day. We pulled in an ice chest full and caught just as many not in the slot.
When we arrived in the morning, we pulled into an area cordoned off with an electronic gate. We drove past a beautiful mansion-type lodge and parked right next to the pier. Totally secure, no worries about losing anything from the bed of the truck at a public marina. We had a quick safety brief, kids used the restroom, and off to the fishing spot. We were there five minutes and boom - my 7-year-old landed the first fish of the day. From there it was on.
Captain Dave strategically moved and communicated with other captains from the area. There is solid teamwork. He kept us in fish and we moved to new spots when other boats started crowding us. He never brought us to a dry spot.
When the live bait was depleted, well past our allotted time - we went back to the dock. We took pictures and then wandered the comfortable grounds of the private lodge while Captain Dave cleaned and portioned the fish. Free ice was available to pack our catch for the ride home.
All in all, an amazing day. My kids already want to book another trip! We will be fishing with Captain Dave again, for sure. I highly recommend Pelican State Fishing Charters. A great experience and memories I will treasure.

Too many great things to say about Captain Dave and our experience on the water with him!
We showed up in Louisiana not knowing a thing about where to fish or when to fish or anything like that. All we knew is that we wanted to do some fly fishing while we were in town and luckily Dave was available.
We were also traveling with a small dog and we were so thankful that he let us bring here aboard.
Being fishing guides and owning our own guide business in Alaska, we definitely know great guides when we encounter them and Captain Dave went above and beyond to show us a good time and put us on the fish!
Next time we are in the area, we will definitely call on Dave to take us fishing!

This guy is great. He knew the area very well. We caught a bunch of fish; redfish and specks. We took the best ones for keeps to a nearby restaurant, Jan's, and they cooked them up for cheap. Delicious. Recommend fishing with captain Dave.

This was our 3rd outing with Captain Dave. Consistently great fishing every time. Caught our limit of trout this time plus 2 beautiful 15 lb reds. This captain knows his stuff.

I love to fish and working full time only get to go out with a captain once a year so we make sure it is with a good captain who knows the waters, respects the land and finds fish regardless of the weather. We have fished with capt. Dave three times, in all three seasons and have always come back with a cooler full of fish, learn new tips on how to fish and renewed love of the waterways of South. Louisiana. What we love about him is he enjoys fishing, does not fill your ears with useless chatter and respects the wild life. Trouts and Reds and have never been disappointed!

Captain Dave is the man to see when you are ready for a great time . Very knowledgeable . Great to take your family for great time. I would defiantly charter fishing trip with captain Dave. Thanks captain. We had a blast.

I have always wanted to catch a redfish and when we came to New Orleans I found pelican state charters. Capt Dave provided a top notch experience in an amazingly beautiful place. The conditions were windy the day we fished but capt Dave's knowledge of the water and currents put us on fish. My wife and I caught several fish and I caught 3 fish in the 7 to 8 lb range. We will be back for sure.

We had such a great fishing experience with Pelican State Fishing Charters last year that we decided to return and make this an annual trip! Captain Dave is a knowledgeable fishing guide! He knows how to put you on the fish! His patience and sense of humor helped make our experience even better. Dave and his wife Jill are terrific hosts and provided us with a wonderful home-cooked meal! We definitely would recommend booking a day tour with Pelican State Fishing Charters !

We highly recommend Pelican State Fishing Charters for an awesome day on the water! Captain Dave and his wife Jill, epitomize "southern hospitality"! Captain Dave will find the fish! If you choose to stay overnight, the food is delicious and plentiful! But, there are too many candy bowls around! LOL Thanks again, Captain Dave and Jill for another terrific fishing trip!
