Pretty place but not worth the price. Lax management and multiple safety issues.

Resort is beautiful but way short of expectations for ultra premium pricing.

Pros:
I had a fantastic spa treatment, facial with Janine. The spa and amenities are beautifully appointed. She was professional, competent and a pleasant conversationalist.

The grounds are undeniably breathtaking. While there’s no sandy beach, the beautifully landscaped grounds, multiple pools, hot tubs and views are spectacular in every direction.

Cons:
I booked a last-minute stay in August and reserved an “Oceanview two king room”, advertised as 450 sq st. I don’t travel with a tape measure but I can tell you with 100% certainty that the room that I was staying in, #478 (Ledges building) was not close to 450 ft.² and it was quite honestly “meh”. It was nice enough but for $800 a night it should have been way more upgraded with no peeling paint or worn ottomans. View was nice but nothing wow.

Onto the pool and hot tub which is honestly where the biggest disappointment came from. One of the reasons I chose this resort was it’s wide selection of both family and adult pools (I was traveling solo). When I arrived on Saturday the resort pool and hot tub which are very clearly marked for being ages 13+ was packed with the children of hotel running all over the pool deck yelling and screaming and jumping in and out of the hot tub‘s and pool. The kids pool area appeared to be empty most of my stay.

It’s unfortunate that the parents did not follow instructions but ultimately it’s up to the hotel management to enforce and they were clearly not interested. There was one girl taking drink orders at the poolside on Saturday and she clearly was not going to engage in conflict with the guests.

Of greater concern was the tremendous number of glass beer bottles, martini glasses and draft glasses sitting on the side of the hot tub. Again it was clearly posted that there was no glass allowed but nobody seemed interested in following this rule and as a guest I’m not interested in stepping on somebody’s broken glass. It’s a major safety issue and one that I was very disappointed to see happening at an ultra high-end resort.

Unacceptable customer service
jun. de 2021 • Amigos
Terrible customer service and communication at this spa. They have the view and the location but need to overhaul how they treat their spa guests and learn how to make a bad experience right and honor what they say. When one thing goes wrong it continues to go in that direction. Unfortunate because I wanted to love this place!

Enjoyed the pedicure and "Sanctuary" with a gorgeous view
oct. de 2020
The Spa at the Cliff House has many treatments, but if you are not into massages or body treatments, they also offer some nice pedicure options.

The pedicure "salon" is extremely clean and clients are distanced appropriately for Covid. You will get a warm neck roll and cup of herbal tea.

They also use products with few or no chemicals. I was surprised to learn about the nail polish that dries in 5 minutes. My technician was excellent and communicated with me very well.

You will pay a lot more for this pedicure than in a typical "nail salon" in the USA but what makes it worth the price is the environment. If you get a pedicure you can sit in the Sanctuary, sip on some water or tea, and enjoy the incredible cliff views of the ocean. But, you need to make sure you ask for this benefit. My technician walked me there. Do not be shy...just ask :-)

I think you can also use the Steam Room. However, you cannot use the swimming pools or hot tubs at the hotel unless you are staying at the hotel. If you are told by a hotel employee that you can also use these facilities with a spa service make sure to get their name and save the email. Ask for a manager to make sure that you were given the correct information.

When you make your reservation, you will give them a credit card number and your service will be charged to that credit card along with a 20% gratuity. I am completely OK with this. No cash is exchanged.

Great massage
sept. de 2019 • Solitario
Kathleen was great. She asked what I would like her to focus on and went ahead and did just that. I arrived with hyper legs and left with very calm legs. Of course she massaged my back and did a very relaxing job there.
The head massage was soothing as well.
The environment was relaxing too. Everyone was very nice who helped with taking me to the Sanctuary and then to the lockers.
A very good experience.Thank you!

Birthday treat
jun. de 2019 • Pareja
my wife and I had a couples massage on her birthday. The setting of the Spa is gorgeous same views has the rest of the hotel but much quieter! My only complaint (besides the cost) is that when our having a massage with your head buried in a face pillow the view doesn't help (it could have been in a closet) the massage was 90 min. and was a average quality. The sanctuary was quiet and pleasant place to enjoy the Champagne after your massage! If it wasn't a special occasion I wouldn't have done it very pricey!

Had a couples massage with my wife.
The massage was very good. Deep tissue. Very relaxing.
The room was fantastic. Overlooking the ocean. Beautiful.
A little pricey but worth the splurge.
I recommend if you’re staying at the hotel.

Luxury prices but not luxury experience

The Cliff House Spa has the right idea but needs to take a few extra steps to make it comparable to my favorite spas (Mirbeau in Skaneateles NY and The Omni Mount Washington Resort in NH). The ladies locker room is nicely appointed but small and seems way overcrowded with even four people in it. We were given lockers on top of each other which made it even harder to change. Reworking the space (take some space away from the sink area which was large and empty) and adding some ottomans to sit on and put stuff down on would be helpful.

The relaxation room has beautiful views of the ocean but it is also small. For whatever reason--because the room is small, because the room is bright, because patrons have not been instructed either verbally by staff or through signage--the room often seems loud and the opposite of relaxing. Someone talked on her cell phone, another woman stressed about who would take care of her dog, there is no separate space for men/couples. I feel this area of the spa could be improved by having the staff communicate clear expectations (no cell phones, whispers only) and by having a separate area for men/couples. And light the darn fireplace! It would add so much to the ambience and I don't think you would overheat anyone--it is cool even in the summer in Maine.

Finally, the desk staff could improve their communication and people/spa skills. On my most recent visit, it took 3 phone calls to book the appointment and 4 calls to sort out payment afterwards (a gift was involved). Much of the confusion seemed to be because the staff was not communicating amongst themselves. The staff also could not get our names right and they did silly and un-spa-like things like shout across the room to call someone over to show us in and give us the lockers on top of each other. Not relaxing.

I have been to this spa four times and, unfortunately, I have never had an experience that I felt matched the price. I really want to love the place but will probably not go back.
