I love old architecture and buildings so I checked this out & found it to be beautiful. However as I approached the area near the small pond I was attacked by mosquitoes mid- day & couldn't stay long.
Worth a look with a little walking path. It's a brief stop but lovely.

Worth dropping by while around Kennebunkport. The grounds are lovely and they have a nice little gift shop.

We stop here almost every week for a pleasant walk thru the woods and by the shore. Nice place to see shore birds. During the summer, you can watch both the fishermen and the casual boaters come and go. Never crowded.

A great place to walk and enjoy the area. The grounds as well as the trails are well kept. The place is close to town and very peaceful. Great views of the inlet from the trails.

Saint Anthony's Franciscan Monastery is located at the former Campbell estate on the Kennebunk River. The former mansion is now a church. The religious school and the stables are now guest accommodations. The rooms are simple. Some in the stables are more spacious and better appointed. There is a breakfast with all of the fixings, from blueberry pancakes to eggs with sweet peppers, to potato latkes. All home made and delicious. The Olmsted designed grounds and setting are spectacular with water views and woodland walks. The grounds are now punctuated with Christian statuary and references to the Lithuanian culture of the priests, who do morning prayers, daily mass, and evening prayers in the church extension. We were there for a memorial service. The priests offered their blessings and were helpful and caring as we grieved. The setting allowed for quiet walks and the salt water pool offered a cooling and refreshing experience without the crowds and traffic at the public beach within walking distance of the monastery. The location is central to the shops and restaurants of Kennebunkport and the ocean.
This is a wonderful place to visit and stay during summer or off season.

This is a peaceful place to walk around and see the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto and a couple of other shrines and statues. The chapel itself is simple and quite beautiful with lovely stained glass behind the altar. A wonderful place to pray, reflect, or just spend a quiet moment at this beautiful Franciscan monastery.

We went to Mass, hoping to attend at the beautiful outdoor grotto. Instead it was held indoors in the chapel. Their website said the COVID protocols per the Bishop were: congregation limited to 50, masks required, Host to be placed in hands, and no singing. In this mass, there were probably close to 100 congregants, about 10 masks, priest placed Host directly in the mouths of those requesting it, and singing! The Church was putting their own parishioners at risk, many of whom were elderly. I won’t even go into the homily that was pre-Vatican-ish, scorning the immodest dress at Mass which wasn’t apparent but perhaps he’d seen earlier in the summer. In sum, if you go thinking you’ll be outside in the Grotto, be prepared that you could be in the chapel and that their own stated COVID protocols won’t be followed.

The website says it has many trails, but how many miles is the paved trail that goes along the river and how long does it take to walk it?

Hi,
The parking area and roads leading to the various buildings are paved. The trail itself is not paved. It goes alongside the river and through the woods. I would guess it’s approximately 1 1/2 miles. There are a few statues/sculptures to see along the way. There’s also a gift shop and plenty of places to have a picnic.

You need to call and inquire.... Maine in general is dog friendly (we took our dog this year 2016)
But we carefully checked all our lodging and dining choices (btw- call!!!!! Some places do not advertise ok for well mannered pets-but are quite agreeable to hosting them.

It says not parking on the grounds for Prelude. Where did you park or how did you get there?
Not sure where the Prelude is - there was loads of parking a one min. walk from the modestly in a large parking lot.

What is the availability of parking at the monastery? If limited, then is there parking within a reasonable walking distance?

Are the grounds open in the winter, e.g., between Christmas and New Year's?

yes, the grounds are open, including the church. There is a Retreat House and Conference center on the grounds which is used year round. ( Any guests can stay there if there is availability ) I would check out their website for more info on staying there. But mass is offered I believe daily so church and grounds are open. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
(Not sure if I responded to your question in the right box, so here it is again.
