$20 to park, even just to walk the trail for an hour. RIPOFF. I turned around and won’t return. I can understand a nominal fee but $20 for out of state cars regardless of length of stay was unacceptable. We just wanted to stretch our legs during a long journey. I recommend starting in the car and bypassing this ripoff.

Our idea of camping is using flashlights in a dark hotel room but I must confess we had a pleasant experience especially when it was the first time we’ve ever camped as a family.
If you don’t want to pitch a tent then I highly recommend Yurt #3 out of the 4 yurts that they have on site. Yurt 3 is the closest to the restrooms, has ample outdoor space with a couple of tables and a fire pit. I suppose the yurt is the “Ritz” of the campground as it has plenty of outlets, an oversized table sandwiched between the bunk beds, a lamp that brightens the whole yurt, and a fan.
The mattresses were so so but you can’t be too fussy when you’re camping.
Plenty of hiking trails and the lake was nice. The whole compound including the facilities were also super clean. Friendly and knowledgeable rangers as well.

Went to the park with the intentions of hiking. There was no staff at the park and a sign that stated "no vehicles beyond this point except registered campers". Apparently you have to camp at the park to access hiking trails?

We stopped here for a bit while we were on our way somewhere so we could stretch our legs and be in nature for a bit, and really enjoyed the experienced. It's not a super fancy park, but there are good hiking trails and camping sites, and a pretty pond with a beach if you want to suntan or take your boat onto the water. There are also paved trails if you want to ride your bike here. Bring a lot of bug spray, as there were a lot of mosquitoes, but that's to be expected at a park. The bathrooms were actually pretty clean, which I note because not all public parks have clean bathrooms.

We had a great site. Quiet, well keep, friendly staff. A lot of hiking trails and places to bike ride and kayaking. Clean bathrooms and free showers.

We had a pleasant stay. The main drawback was the noise pollution from the Mass Pike. Rain was a welcome change because it masked the sound of the traffic. Our site was large but sloped. Some sites appeared quite small and others appeared sloped. A few looked very nice. Gravel roads were not fit for bike riding or large vehicles but there were paved roads too. The campground seemed older but well maintained. There were some nice trails and we enjoyed paddling on the pond. Noise and sights of the Pike on both. A new restroom was located over by the sites on the pond.

Had a decent camping trip @ Wells State Park. They are only at 50% capacity due to covid so it was rather quiet which was nice. Did a fair amount of bike riding around the park and on the trails. The beach/pond are was ok at best, nice to have for a quick dip but water was a little sketchy. If you go make sure you bring plenty of bug spray as mosquitos buzzing and sand fleas also attacked. I assumed they were mosquito bites but given the fact I used a lot of bug spray throughout the entire trip frequently I think it was sand flea bites. Make sure you wear long socks and google what repels sand fleas as deet does not work on them. I have at least 50 bites on my lower legs

Ohh, I must say that lake water was wonderful! I'm from New England and for this area, it was quite warm. We hung out there a lot, doing some swimming and chilling on tubes. Next year we're definitely bringing kayaks as the water was quite peaceful (not choppy) . Beyond that the park is well-maintained. It was quiet, but as MA has opened only 1/2 the tent sites this year, I don't know how it feels on a normal year. One downside was there were plenty of mosquitoes to go around. I regularly put on bug spray and was spared but some members of my party didn't and got quite a collection of bumps from bug bites on their legs!
The campsites vary in quality. If I had had one of the better ones, I probably would have given the park a 5. Instead I'm giving it a 4 (or a 3.5 in my mind) because I was in the sites #25 to #28 section of which some were just too packed hard and on an incline. If you are with the park or state & reading this, please, please bring in a bulldozer to loosen the soil & level out the few sites you have here and there throughout the park like that. It'll make a better experience for everyone. (Again, most of the sites looked fine.)

The park was quiet with not a lot of people. I went here because that was the only park I found online with a beach area. Unfortunately, the beach left little to be desired (perhaps due to circumstances it has not been maintained). A friend and I both went into the water only to have someone come over to us 20 minutes after we were in to let us know there are leaches in the water.
Beautiful state park just not what I was looking for as a park/picnic/swim option

Having a hour to spare we it was suggested that we might like to visit the nearby Wells State Park. As it was early October, the season had finished so very few people were around.
I checked the local information and there were all sorts of warnings concerning mosquitos and ticks carrying Lyme disease. As we had not come suitable prepared for such eventualities we decided on a quick circular walk sticking to a paved road. We saw lots of trees towering way above us seemingly very thin for their height and watched the tops of them swaying in the wind.
We walk4ed past lots of the camping sites (un occupied) and saw the permanent Yurts for anyone wishing to experience this sort of 'glamping'.
Yes its a forest

Wondering what people's preferences are for water front sites. Looking to do a 3-4 day stay and would like easy access to the water as I plan to be using a kayak during the visit.

Direct water access sites are booked early, as you can book up to 6 months in advance. There is a short driveway that accesses the beach area. Small parking area. May be your best bet to go the kayaking route. Many great sites. Facilities are adequate (please keep in mind that this is camping....not a hotel). Yes, there are some bugs/spiders. Walking trail to Carpenter's Rock is steep but views are worth the hike.
