We did a half day trip through Voyageurs and the guide was great, the area is beautiful but I had a hard time enjoying it after the company increased the price of the trip within a week of departure due to gas costs. Therefore, I had no time to get reservations with another company. I didn't have a problem with the reason for the price increase, however, I found it unprofessional to change the price we agreed upon within a week of the day trip. This was also the week of the fourth when availability is slim. I don't like leaving poor reviews but I can't recommend a company that bait and switches-- gas prices have been up for months and they had plenty of time to notify me if there was a change in the price.

Everything about our trip with Voyageurs Guide Service was incredible -- we've been blessed to have traveled to amazing places all over the country but it's hard to think of many better, happier family experiences. Emily was a excellent communicator and trustworthy, consummate professional from the moment we began the planning process for our 2-day overnight camping/boating trip, and we felt completely relaxed and well taken care of throughout our time fishing, boating, camping, hiking, cliff jumping, and generally exploring the highlights of the National Park. Our kids (10 and 11 years old) were just thrilled with how she connected with them as well, especially our daughter who hadn't really camped before (but might have had the best time of everyone).

If you're considering a visit to Voyageurs National Park and/or contemplating the possibility of working with a guide, please know that you really do need to get out on the water (and ideally camp overnight) to fully understand what makes the park so special. We did some fun hiking/exploring in the park on the days before and after our guided trip with Emily, but there was nothing like being with her and zipping from island to island without a car ever in sight, and laying our heads down in comfy sleeping bags on our very own island (we were on one of several islands that has just one campsite) with just ethereal loon calls and lapping water lulling us to sleep. We don't really EVER travel with guides (we're fairly frugal and independent) but we had a sense we weren't going to be able to create this experience on our own -- I'm so grateful that we recognized this and found Emily.

Now, of course not everything was perfect -- we were there during a major drought and heat wave, so the fish weren't biting (they were down in the cooler depths), the hoped-for wild blueberries had shriveled in the heat, and we couldn't make a campfire due to fire restrictions. But Emily wasn't flustered by any of this; she was always prepared with an alternate plan, and we were totally comfortable working with her to "flex" our itinerary on-the-fly based on factors like rainy weather and our interests/energy levels.

Trust me that you won't regret working with Emily -- beyond being skilled and knowledgeable, you can just feel the deep love and passion she has for this special place in the world, and because of her we ended up falling in love with Voyageurs ourselves. We'll be back!

We had a wonderful time with Emily as our guide through Voyageurs National Park. She was very knowledgeable about the park and surrounding areas. With 2 kids with us she was very accommodating and patient with them. As a boat operator, we felt very safe being in her care. We would highly recommend her services.

Our cabin host gave us Emily’s name as a good guide for boat trips. So true. She’s skilled, easy to be around, and very knowledgeable about the region. We hired her for a half-day boat trip into Voyageur. My daughter, son-in-law and I felt safe and secure as passengers, and enjoyed both the water travel and short walk to a dam and historic hotel. I may come back for an outfitted canoe trek into the Boundary Waters at some point, and would feel very comfortable hiring Emily. Great experience, great guide. ~ Suzy

We wanted to camp, paddle and climb in a remote area along the border between Minnesota and Ontario. Without help, the logistics were crushing. We needed a boat to ferry gear and canoe. We needed local knowledge of maze-like lakes, shallow rocky channels and camp worthy sites. We needed approach info and beta for the crags. When I called around Crane Lake, people recommended Emily. Her simple answer to our proposal: "Sure, I can do that." So she hauled us into decently isolated territory and shared her insider knowledge about camping and climbing in the area. Our party included 5 people, ages 10 to 70. We spent 3 days on David Lake. Climbed the Jeff's World complex. We also paddled, feasted, fished. We saw and or heard loons, owls, hummingbirds, mergansers, eagles, beavers. The only thing we didn't see was the moose leaving all the scat around. Oh, and wolves. The only bummer was sand flies. Next time we are staying longer, adding some dedicated fishing days with Emily's guide service.
