This is definitely a short stop worth seeing!! The tree is amazing! I had no idea it was as big as it actually is. The area is so pretty and very relaxing little walk.

I love visiting these kinds of historical marker. This tree is incredible. To know that it still stands after hurricane Katrina is crazy! Some of the roots are in the ground from years of growth. A must see quick stop!

Great to see, parking was easy to find because I think it was college spring break. The tree is roped off so you have to be creative for good pictures, as parts of the tree are really starting to look bad. Honestly, there are a lot of really beautiful, old trees all around that area. 500 years is a long time, though so we were glad we visited!

This grand old tree is located just on the Southern Miss Gullf park campus. I arrived after sunset and was surprised how well you could still see the tree. If you drive past it about 20 yards, there were a few parking spots allowing you to hop out and walk on the street to check out the tree. It's roped off and signs ask you not to walk near or climb on the tree. It's an impressive tree, as many in the south are, if you are in the area it's worth checking it out!

Apparently, it was more majestic prior to Katrina. You can almost tell by looking at it. The writings near the tree are very well done. Having this on a Univeristy site is great for the students. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it, but if you are passing by, it's worth the quick stop.

At one time I would have given a 4 star rating. In recent years they have had to amputate some major limbs and remove the tree house. Therefore sadly the 2 star rating.

This is a very old and very large Oak Tree that is starting to "Fall apart". Large critical branches are coming off of the tree. Well, having survived 3 major hurricanes over the past 100 years, it's doing as well as it can be. It is so beautiful, but Steel support braces / beams detract from its true beauty. Go see it while you can because I'm not sure it will be around for too much longer (my opinion). It's sad. It's free.

We took the grandchildren to see where their father proposed to there mother on the campus of USM gulf park in Long Beach. You can no longer climb up into the tree since one of the large branches broke off. But is was interesting to see their parents proposal site.

You should have seen her in all of her majestic glory this day before Hurricane Katrina hit her with a 32 ft wall of water on August 29, 2005.
Camille in 1969 nor Katrina could bring this old gal down even though she stands just across Hwy 90 from the gulf. A trip to the MS coast has never been complete without visiting her. My two Marine Corps buddies and our wives made this trip, but of course our ladies wanted to stay at the casinos while we visited the tree.
We made the best deal. When her shadow covers you, whoever is with you will remain a friend forever -Indian Legend. In our case, that is certainly true!

Stopped here because it is a tourist attraction. Stop and think how many hurricanes has this tree survived
