While planning our trip, this is a stop we had scheduled while on our way to the National Bison Range.
It is a small museum, but being history buff's, we really enjoyed their presentation. The handmade articles from their past were quite interesting. The beadwork on several items is exquisite.
They also have a nice little gift shop that includes handmade items from the reservation. We purchased several items for ourselves, and a few extra items as Christmas gifts.
The staff were friendly and quite informative. Being a small museum, I really thought we would be the only guests there, but several families were already inside and more were arriving as we left. Also note, photography is not permitted inside.
When in town, I would highly recommend a visit.

This was an interesting stop along the way. Interesting artifacts. Was that impressed with the gift shop. Would have liked more authentic choices.

This was a very educational stop. The museum is rather small but the workers were very friendly and helpful in explanations and pronunciations. They went above and beyond by finding a map and showing us some of the sights that should be seen in the area.

Unmissable on the main road with its Teepee's out front, a great place to stop and see the small museum's Kootenai and Salish (Sqelixw-Aqlsmaknik) treasure.
Great reception from Staff and beautiful items for sale if you like the Native American theme.
A 30-minute stop-off well worth a visit if you're travelling through western Montana's Flathead Indian Reservation.

A strikingly beautiful building houses the People's Center museum and shop. The museum is small and somewhat unorganized in its presentation of dioramas and artifacts. But the biggest plus is the many interpretive panels—wordy but worth the time to read (provided you can stand for quite some time). Highlighting the gift shop are books and beads, the latter in the form of beads available for purchase or finished beadwork items that can be both practical and a souvenir of your visit. .

This museum is quite small--one large room--but the displays and the artifacts are quite interesting. The museum is still in development, according to a posted sign, but we very much enjoyed our visit and learned quite a bit about the Native American tribes that lived in this area for many centuries before the Europeans arrived.

The Flathead Reservation combines two very different Native groups: the Salish and the Kootenai. This is a good place to learn about them. It's not large, but the material is well presented, and there is a nice gift shop. I was curious about the language used on the signs you see along the road here, and the person at the visitor center assured me that both Salish and Kootenai are there, but which one depends on the direction in which you are going!

They have a small, yet eclectic collection. Goods made by locals for sale. Staff wasn't too friendly when I was there.

The museum is small and community-curated which makes it interesting because it includes the stories, objects, and historical interpretations that are important to the tribe. One of the most interesting things was a map of the reservation over time and how land had been taken away over time and now recently is being repurchased by tribal members and put into trust. The gift shop is nice with lots of local jewelry. When I was there, the women could tell me who had made what piece.

I took a group of multi-age homeschool students to the People's Center. We learned a great deal and loved the Native games. If you call ahead, the staff is wonderful about creating an experience especially for your group. A guided tour truly makes the small museum experience come a live! If you are a solo traveler or a couple, it won't take you much time to experience the location, but if you are a school group, make as much time as possible.
