Great view

We were really pleased we persisted with getting up towers hill. We tried yesterday but mr google led us on one of those wild goose chases. Today we asked a local and it was as simple as driving up the Main Street til it went up the hill. Great view of the town but also the district. The story boards give us lots of info on the history of the surrounding areas. Well worth the drive up.

We went there for the views of the town. We found a lot of the history explained in a lot of interesting detail. The views were great also.

Walk to the lookout
sept. de 2021
This was an interesting adventure. We walked to the top from the car park just before sunset. Unfortunately none of the augmented reality tech was operational which was a bit disappointing as it would have been great to learn a little more about the bunkers and the role they played in wwII. A stunning sunset was enjoyed by all with beautiful views over Charters Towers. It will be good for tourists if they get the AR up and running again soon.

Interesting area

Well worth a visit for a view over the town as well as the WW2 bunkers scattered about. Unfortunately the audio visual effect was not working.

Great place to view the sunset and maybe the sunrise?

Just another photo spot but well worth it. Check out the Info Centre first for ideas. This is just one of them.

Informative

Plenty of information here on the gold mining history of Charters towers, coupled with excellent views over the township and surrounds, makes this a worthwhile activity to undertake in town. Easy, sealed access for vehicles: the more energetic might consider walking.

The best view in town
sept. de 2021 • Solitario
You can drive up but you would miss part of the experience. There is ample parking at the bottom for vehicles of all sizes. The path is new, smooth concrete. The trip to the top is only one kilometre but it is quite steep. Halfway up there are ammunition bunkers. One has a B25 bomber run simulation. The other has audio stories of Charters Towers during the war.

At the top of the hill is an excellent viewing platform. There is also some excellent interpretation on easy to read boards. In the evening there is an open air movie presentation. I didn’t see it.

There are side walks to a mine and the old pyrites factory.

There is a free app that reputedly gives a virtual reality experience. I could not make it work.

Lovely sunset view, a place with some history
jun. de 2021 • Pareja
We made the mistake of asking Google maps to direct us up to this lookout. In one of Google’s most bizarre routes we’ve experienced, it took us up a goat track that very soon became a quite challenging 4WD track. Avoid Chloride St at all costs!

Putting that experience aside, this lookout is well worth a visit. Apart from an excellent almost 360 degree view, the information boards provide a lot of the history of Charters Towers’ gold mining days as well as the town’s role as a US base during the second war.

The council has spent a lot of money on this hill to provide easy access walkways as well as interactive displays.

This is an excellent attraction and should be visited.

Recommend!

do it
jul. de 2021
If you are an early riser do yourself a favour and do this at sunrise. Stunning. Birds circling in the thermals, history in every direction and if you are very lucky a wallaby surprising you by springing out of the long grass.
