My brother and I really enjoyed our visit to the Avro air museum, the staff were very friendly knowledgeable and considerate, we participated in four of the tours round the planes and think they were worth every penny, the guides on some of the tours had actually seen service on these aircraft during various conflicts and did thier best to make you feel welcome. The level of knowledge the guides have about these aircraft is second to none and they are a credit to this fine aircraft museum. If you have never been here you are missing out on a great day whether you are interested in aviation or not. It's also great as there are hands on flight simulators that the kids can try or even big kids like me and my brother, ha ha. Thanks to all those unsung heroes who run the place ! Don't miss out on a great day out , go there soon and you won't be disappointed. Thanks again to all the staff, from Colin and Tony.

The museum building itself here looks quite small with some aircraft sections and an entire Vulcan parked around the edge. Inside is packed with exhibits and features as well as lots more aircraft (mostly sections) to see. I went as part of an organised tour and was shown most of the visitable aircraft. The Vulcan outside wasn't open but they have a genuine Vulcan cockpit inside you can visit. In the Summer the outdoor Vulcan interior is visitable too. Another highlight is a perfect replica of a Lancaster frontal fuselage.

The tours really help bring the exhibits to life and with the post war aircraft like the Nimrod, VC10 or Vulcan, there's a good chance your guide will be someone who worked on or flew them in period. Their stories really help to bring the exhibits to life and hearing about things that happened as well as about the aircraft itself is a big highlight. (The previous reviewer who complained about hearing about the guides career can't have been listening very well if they think this is a bad thing!)

There are lots of other interactive exhibits too like simulated Nimrod submarine hunting or a VR flight simulator.

On top of this, there's a comprehensive history of Avro and the site up until it's closure as an aircraft facility.

There's also a small cafe which serves snacks plus the usual tea, coffee biscuits etc.

The whole place is run by very enthusiastic and friendly volunteers. If you have any interest in aviation and/or history you'll find lots to do.

I visited as part of an organised group tour and despite being there over three hours, I didn't quite manage to see everything.

It's another highly recommended museum and another that I will be returning too despite it being hours from where I live.

Great experience of actually being a pilot. Hands on experiences in cock pits, flight simulators, using sonobuoys. Kids loved it. Much more enjoyable than Cosford. Reasonable price. Expert ex- pilot staff to guide you

Absolutely revelled in the experience at the Avro museum. Trevor made us feel more like family than visitors! Definitely recommend the cockpit tours of the Vulcan and Lancaster. Both are very informative and the guides are well informed and interesting. The I drooled over some aviation history (not literally) including radial engines and fascinating displays. It is a small museum but full of things to take your interest.

Very interesting and informative, Vulcan and Lancaster cockpit tours give an idea of what aircrew went through ..
Only criticism is you can't access the cafe unless paying for entry so elderly mum had to wait in the car...
And I was overcharged for a cockpit tour... but as it's a charity and the tours were very good I'll let them off !

Visited here today whilst staying in Buxton for a few days. What a brilliant little museum! Full of fascinating historical facts and memorabilia, as well as the amazing aircraft. The volunteers here are brilliant too, such a wealth of experience and information.
A really reasonable entrance fee and the opportunity to visit the cockpit of certain aircraft for a mere £2.
The whole museum is absolutely spotless, well presented and a great cafe upstairs too!
Well done to everyone involved!

An absolutely amazing gem of a museum right on the doorstep in the North West. It isn't a huge place but that makes for plenty of time to digest all the exhibits, information, play on interactive devices and simulators, listen to expert briefings, learn about the history, enjoy a cuppa in the cafe, explore outdoors and talk to the volunteers who make this place such a worthwhile place to visit. Thank you all for such a wonderful day.
It is great for people with disabilities and there are wheelchairs available for those who need assistance. Parking is great!

Tour of the museum, "locate and attack a Soviet sub", 1 hour 603 cockpit tour, and 1 hour lecture. Still much left to do if time had allowed.

What an amazing visit! Entertaining, informative, and totally engrossing. The onsite team from reception to lecturer were all superb and so incredibly friendly. Possibly one of the best museum visits I've ever had (60+ yrs).

This guy was talking to much about himself. I thank him for his air force service but do talk about aircrafts on display rather than yourself
