Upthebay ponny tours was one of the best decisions that we made for our trip to Chincoteague. Mike was a great guide and explained everything patiently and in great detail. We got up really close to the ponnies and saw a bunch bald eagles. Thanks Mike once again for the lovely tour. Will be back soon.

Capt. Mike grew up along the shore, and knows the ponies by name. He’s friends with the bald eagles and tells great stories from his early years, a boy and his boat. He enjoys his passengers and keeps late model boats that have all the amenities. He even brings blankets to ward off chilly breezes. He’s your best choice for eco tours!

We had the best time with Captain Mike -- Definitely a 5-star experience and great value! It really seems like taking a boat trip is the best way to see the ponies of Chincoteague and there are a lot of boat tour options on the island. It was hard to know where to begin in deciding on a tour company. We are SO HAPPY we went with Up-The-Bay-Pony-Tours.
We booked with Up-The-Bay-Pony-Tours in mid-November -- as the season is winding down for the year, and were pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable the tour was, even on a cold day! Captain Mike is fantastic! He was prepared with blankets on the boat to help keep us warm, and even more, he showed up so enthusiastic and engaged, that it is clear he loves his job and sharing his island home with visitors.
Captain Mike is friendly and created a really positive, adventurous, easy tone for the tour. Having grown-up on Chincoteague, he knows much about the area, navigated the waters expertly, and shared his extensive knowledge about the ponies, wildlife, Chincoteague, etc. He made everyone feel comfortable and safe on the boat. Even more, he is genuinely, authentically passionate about all things pony. Although he couldn't "guarantee" we would see ponies, he went above-and-beyond to make sure we had the best viewing possible on our tour and went to multiple parts of the island so we could see different bands of ponies along the island. He is familiar with the specific horses as well as lots of interesting information about how the herd is managed, the annual pony swims, the different foals, etc.
Captain Mike clearly takes pride in his business and in his trade -- his boat was comfortable and spotless, and his website allowed for easy online booking. We appreciated how easy it was to find an available tour and book it. We also liked that his tour had only 6 seats -- which is a small group and makes for a spacious and comfortable trip.
Above all, Captain Mike is generous and kind! He even offered-up his personal thermal hat and gloves to a cold passenger (at the very beginning of our voyage) and opted to be cold himself, so they would be more comfortable on a chilly November day. Wow. You don't see that everyday.
Up-The-Bay-Pony Tours is a great choice and highly recommended. You can't go wrong with Captain Mike.

The entire ride was a great experience!
Mike knew the entire history of the area and was very willing to answer any and all questions.
The experience is something my nephew and I will never forget!
If I come back to the area I will definitely go on another Up theBay Pony Tour!

Captain Mike still took me on tour even though I was the only one on the trip. The other company would not let me book alone. He was born in the area and loves his island. He is a great conversationalist and it was an enjoyable and fun trip complete with the ponies of course

Outstanding! There is no other way to describe our trip today. Captain Mike gave us a tour we will never forget. We saw ponies, dolphin, eagles, egrets, and many more shore birds. Mike was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the wildlife who reside in the water and on the land. My mother is 90 years old and he made sure she was comfortable on the boat, and even brought her blankets! Don't book your trip with anyone else!!! His boat is clean and well cared for, and he is an experienced guide. Thank you Captain Mike for our family trip, we will be back for sure!

I highly recommend Up the Bay Pony Tours! Captain Mike was very welcoming and really went above and beyond to ensure that everyone on the boat had a good time and got to see many different types of wildlife. Additionally, he's very knowledgeable about the area and had several suggestions for things to do and places to go after the tour. The boat is very comfortable, well cared for and had plenty of safety features. I would definitely book this tour again.

Had an amazing trip with Captain Mike. Captain mike was friendly and welcoming. The boat was gorgeous and comfortable. The newest most comfortable boat ride I have ever been on. And….
