It was very nice taking a tour of Capitol Street which has the very beautiful Capitol Building with an outstanding and rich looking gold dome at the top.

Dead, dirty, boring, a lot of empty abandon houses by the farmers market. Most bars are closed mid day. Food is just about impossible to find mid day. Mall is mostly dead and empty.

We try to walk 2 miles a day while on vacation. This street is within that area for most downtown hotels. There are several restaurants / pizza places and shops. Some older buildings well cared for and area is clean and seems safe.

If you are passing through or just working downtown, there is something on Capitol Street for everyone. From the little bars, restaurants, book stores, bakeries, and even a few places to shop on your lunch break. There is a wide variety of options to choose from whether you are shopping for a new dress or simply grabbing some fresh roasted coffee from one of the little shops. I love the way the stores and businsses take the time to decorate for the holidays too. It's always so nice and taken care of - definitely improved on the apperance of downtown over the past few years.

Capitol Street was safe and well maintained. It was full of nice restaurants with metered parking, save for certain hours and for Sundays. Interstate 64 was not far away from this area. Still, much of the cafes were not open on a Sunday afternoon.

Fun place to stroll around for a spell. At night, there we found covered outdoor tables set up in the middle of the street. You can get food or drink from the establishments and find a place to hang that best suites you or hop around.

Capitol Street is a cute area that is worth a few minutes if you have some spare time. There is not much happening on the street other than a few restaurants and a book store. It seems to be an up -and-coming area and felt pretty safe. Not necessarily worth a visit if it's out of the way, but certainly a cute area with a few places to grab a bite.

This was our first visit to Capital Street, while in Charleston visiting family. Overall, I thought the street looked great. You could see where restaurants were opening, buildings are being revitalized and people are gathering. Our only challenge, in visiting some of the local shops, is that post-COVID hiring must still be a challenge, as many of the shops were only open for limited hours. Otherwise, I think Capital Street is on its way. We’ll definitely come back during our next visit.

The street is cute, but there is not much to it. There is a coffee/book shop and a few cool restaurants. This is not a destination area, but is worth a stroll if you happen to be passing through.

I like the tents and outdoor seating that was made available for the different shops and eateries on this street. Was definitely a good place to walk around.

Yes. I believe all public places must be wheel chair accessible (I think it's a law there).
Is it wheel chair accessible?

The street is yes but some of the restaurants may have a small step.
Are the stores open memorial day?

I recommend calling the specific shop of interest to determine their schedule before going downtown. I am sure the eaterys will be open but since the "retail" shops are locally owned its highly possible they will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.

Look to stop around here as a half way point for our trip. Any suggestions on where there is public parking or where two young kids could run around for a bit?

There's a place called "Magic Island" right off the Lee Street exit (just keeping going straight on Pennsylvania Avenue, which is the street you'll be on when you get off the interstate) that has playground equipment and a lot of space to run around. It has free parking under the interstate (it'll be on your right hand side as you're driving down Pennsylvania).
If you want to put it in your GPS, try 35 Pennsylvania Ave, Charleston, WV, 25302 (that's the intersection of streets right across from it)
