Very nice walking trail and lookouts - The larger trail was closed when we visited but we still enjoyed the lookouts and shorter trail. Saw some swans!!

This was a nice stop off the beaten bath. The parking lot is gravel and the bathrooms were closed unfortunately. It was relaxing to get out and walk around a bit. There are also some green paths that are easy to walk on if you are looking to take a pit stop.

This is our second visit here. If you are going to Long Point camping then you should stop here. The views and all the nature you will see is quite amazing. Sunsets there are perfect out on the platform they built up.
Free parking. Bring a kayak or canoe. Or just walk.
Highly recommended for all ages.
It is not any kind of petting zoo or anything, it is all natural settings wildlife.

Big Creek is a most interesting wetlands park, full of turtles, frogs and fish in summer months. In early September, monarch butterflies fill the air as they head south. In autumn ducks and Canada geese stop there on their flights south. In winter it is frozen over and skaters can explore the creeks. In early March, thousands of Tundra Swans stop there on flights north. A wonderful sight. They are gone by March 15 most years.

Big Creek National Wildlife Area offers so much to the outdoor adventurer and lover. I have visited Big Creek so many times and for so many reasons ... birding, looking for monarch butterflies, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and photography. What a beautiful place. I've seen many birds and monarchs pass through the area during the migration months. The marshlands are always alive with animal activity.

The creek itself has a lot of twists and turns which make kayaking and canoeing such a fun and challenging ride, especially in the spring when there is a lot of water volume. Along the creek are many fallen branches or trees, a lot of obstacles that must be avoided.

My outdoor group and I have kayaked or canoed in the area so many times. Spring, summer, fall ... it always is a blast to be on Big Creek. Each and every season offers a different perspective of nature in the area. For canoeing or kayaking, We put in about 10 kms. north and end at Big Creek NWA. Sometimes, it can be very windy once you hit "open" water.

This is a special place and I am sure to go back again and again.

You can rent a boat for $50 half day and feel like going up a river in Costa Rica! We even saw a snake swim across the creek. Birds come by the dozens every meter

I may be a little biased when I say this is a must see place for anyone who likes nature as i did grow up in the area. This place is an amazing place to see more bird spiecies that you can imagine in their natural environment. You will see insects, and frogs, and snakes, and turtles just to name a few kid friendly fun creatures to find. There are otter and muscrat and a lot of other furry creatures around as well. The fishing is terrific and always very tastey. The plant life is always full of surprises as well, we are a Carolinian forest environment.

You can explore the many trails. You can paddle your canoe or kayak along any of the many waterways, becareful not to get lost, the many pbends through the reeds all seem to look the same. Make sure you have your camera as the many sites are worth immortalizing digitally. This is an artist and photographers haven.

This Biosphere is truly one of a kind on the planet.
