An idealic setting in a field of yellow flowers. We stayed for a weekend at this Sweet Country house. We really enjoyed the tranquility and the location. It is right along the New River with a spot to put in your canoe right in front of the house. The kids loved playing in the river and catching critters. The rocking chair front porch was picturesque with a table for eating breakfast. It felt like staying with Grandma and was quite relaxing. The house is simple but perfect for us.

Peaceful Country House New River
Great place to stay. We headed up here for Mother's Day. This place has 180 acres and the New River is right there across the road. This road is not traveled hardly at all. We saw maybe 8-10 cars in a day. It is definitely out in the country with plenty of peaceful surroundings. We took stuff for amenities because we weren't sure what they would really have, but you won't need anything at all. They have everything including a fully equipped kitchen with all utensils and more. Anything you have at your house these folks had at this place. They even supplied us with 2 nights worth of charcoal and lighter fluid. We fished the new river and caught several small-mouth bass and some red-eye rock bass too. Wonderful Time!!
We wanted to get away to the mountains for a quiet retreat. The house was clean, the grill was perfect, and the view was great. Also, tubing down the new river was a great time. I would recommend using Zaloos tubing and canoeing. My only criticism is that they advertise trails and areas to explore, but it is really hard to get to explore because of the vegetation. There is no aC upstairs, but fans worked pretty well to cool it off. Also, if you go for the dish tv, their package is about 10 or so stations. However, we were there to get away from tv and cell service and would definitely stay there again.

Away from the world
Our experience was wonderful! It was warm during the days and cold at night. We had woke up without heat one morning and it was 50 degrees inside. We aren't sure if it was lack of working the heat on our part or it just didn't work that one night. Mrs. Walker, the owner came over immediately to fix the problem. What a terrific lady. All the ammenities of home. We were very secluded from the world ~ and that is what we wanted. The New river runs in front of the property which was great for our 4 kids. It is so peaceful and tranquil ~ like stepping back in time.

Lady Bug House
I enjoyed the home except the bugs (all over the place), and also the cold..didn't have central heat and in the room up stair was difficult to sleep, for the same reason. Another inconvenient thing, was that there was only one bathroom for that big space.
It was too pricey for that poor comfort it offered. We stayed in other places for lower or the same price but with better condition.
I liked the location and serenity of this place; the river was close by, woods behind the house and deers coming close by. Overall was a nice experience for my kids (they didn't care for all this issues I complained!). Thank you.

Just what we needed
This home was so wonderful. It felt like being back at my grandparents
home.
My father passed away several months before our visit and I just needed a
place to run away to with my family. I needed peace and quiet. It was
exactly what I needed. Very private. Lots of room to explore. Conveniently
located to town. We had a rather unpleasant first night when our very large
flashlight met up with the very fragile glass in the front door. We felt just
horrible about it but the rental company was very understanding and
couldn't have been nicer about it.
To give an accurate review, I do have to mention some things that weren't as
we had hoped. The upstairs was so cold my daughters couldn't sleep up
there. There was no heating unit and we didn't feel comfortable moving the
one from the bathroom upstairs. The heating is an issue in the home
because if you're in the room where the heater is, you'll roast. If you in the
bedroom around the corner, off the dining room, you better pile on the
blankets. We didn't get to see any wildlife. We read about a deer that
could frequently be seen on the property. Sadly, I think we saw his remains
when we went for our walk one morning. We couldn't actually go exploring
in the woods behind the home because the incline was too steep for our
daughters. These really were minor issues though when compared to the
positive points. We so enjoyed our stay there and only wish it had worked
out for us to go back this year. One thing I would have enjoyed is if they
had put the history of the home somewhere. I would have liked to have
known about the tobacco hanging in the barn and things like that.
Also, it would have been helpful to know that the kitchen door, the main
door we used leading to the outside, locks every time it's shut. Even if you
think it's unlocked, it does indeed lock.
I am not lucky enough to live in the country but for one week last year, we
did. And it was fabulous. We hope to go back!
